So, let discuss the POV that Nova should have fouled UNC

There were people who thought that Nova should have fouled UNC while up 3 with about 13 seconds left.

Now, if you foul, you put pressure on yourself to make the free throws. If you don't foul, you force UNC to make a play.

UNC made a spectacular play, but Nova made the right decision to not foul even if they had gone to OT.

No way with 13 seconds left. I've always heard the theory that you should foul up 3, but only with less than 5 seconds left.

I don't think you should foul.

Chances of UNC making a three aren't great (even though they did), I don't like the idea of giving them two easy chances at the line, not even mentioning the disaster if they get a rebound.

Then you risk fouling while they're putting up the desperation shot.

Right. It's one of those spots where it's too early to foul. There's too much time left. If you foul and they make them now you're going to have to make extreme pressure free throws.

You foul when the play starts where it's going to be the last sequence of the game.

That's true as well. Or if you have issues inbounding the ball. So many things to go wrong.

Yeah, if you lose the national title with something like a FT, then tipout three, you'll kill yourself. No shame in losing in OT after an insane play like Paige made.

Not fouling was definitely the right call. UNC panicked and took a dumb off balance shot too early. It just happened to go in

What percentage was UNC shooting 3s?

35%?

If you do the math, the chances of their hitting a 3 is greater than your best free throw shooter missing once.

That's the logic.

Nova is probably the best free throw shooting team in the NCAA, I would have taken my chances in a free throw shooting contest than a 1 in 3 shot.

You have to get the ball to your best shooter.

They have three guys shooting over 83% from the line this year.

UNC has pressure to make the free throws too, they miss one and they're screwed.

You don't foul at 13 seconds, but when it gets to 5 you do

I wouldn't have done anything different.

Except not change the rhythm of the game to try and take the air of the ball down the stretch.

So you still have an exception?

Even though he just won the NCAAT and you just won, what?

They tried too hard to run the shite clock down before running a play. It forced them out of their rhythm and they made a couple of turnovers and bad decisions and let UNC back in it.

Essentially, Nova started playing not to lose, and that's typically a bad idea.

Nova did this the whole game.

It wasn't just when they were down 5, up 10 or otherwise.

No, they didn't play the whole like they played the last 5 minutes
