Secretariat set race records in all three events in the series – the Kentucky Derby (1:59 2/5), the Preakness Stakes (1:53), and the Belmont Stakes (2:24) – records that still stand today.

the problem is, that if you made a list of the.. 10 more important races in the 20th century, there is not one triple crown race that would sniff the top 10. In the grand scheme of things, triple crown races are quite insignificant and especially so when determining the best of all time and stuff like that.

1. Seabiscuit / War Admeral match race
2. 1978 Jockey Club Gold Cup (Affirmed v. Seattle Slew v. Exceller, the only time 2 triple crown winners have ever faced each other in a race)
3. 1967 Woodward (Buckpasser v. Dumascus v. Dr Fager, all three in the top 30 of all time horses)
4.1989 Breeders Cup Classic (Sunday Silence v. Easy Goer the final match)
5. 1988 Breeders Cup Distaff (Personal Ensign v. Winning Colors)
6. 1979 Jockey Club Gold Cup (spectacular bid v. affirmed)
7. 1986 Breeders Cup Turf (Pebbles v. Strawberry Road)
8. 1998 Breeders Cup Classic (Awesome Again v. skip away v. swain, v. arch v. touch gold v. victory gallop v. silver charm)

the irny eing of the list above, the only time 2 triple crown winners ran again each other, neither one won lol. Exceller beat both of them, though Seattle slew ran what is widely considered the best losing race in american history

no one gives a shite about the kentucky derby / preakness /b elmont in the grand scheme of the horse racing landcape

How come you use say the exact opposite in your post about Easy Goer and Sunday Silence? If Easy Goer had won by a nose in the Preakness, it wouldn't even be a debate between the two.

Seattle Slew beat Affirmed earlier that year in the Marlboro Cup. The JCGC was their second meeting.
