some of the SEC folks have gotten their panties in a wad due to Jim Harbaugh holding a part of their spring practice at IMG Academy in Florida in the upcoming weeks. The SEC commissioner thinks it's "not appropriate," but then added:
translation: we REALLY care about the welfare of student-athletes, and they shouldn't have to practice during spring break, but if that rule doesn't get outlawed, we're gonna do it too
downvote away folks
PS- Michigan baseball, as well as tons of other baseballs teams, are playing during spring break also, but of course, no reference to them

Sounds like he's trying to intimidate Michigan into not doing it by hinting that they will do it "better" if Jim starts the chain reaction. Sounds like an empty threat. Is Alabama holding camps in New Jersey, etc really anywhere close to as advantageous as a big ten school heading south?

What a surprise. A fan of a Big 10 team is butthurt that the tactic that they are attempting to take advantage of due to a restriction that the SEC imposes on its member schools is about to hilariously backfire.

Do you or your half baked coach REALLY want Saban, Miles, Freeze, Smart and McIlwain holding practices and camps in the Midwest? This is a Pandora's Box I don't think you want opened.

You aren't wrong. But then neither is he, the SEC is an ESPN created juggernaut and they will make sure they do it bigger, students be damned.

So Jim is sending the whole team to the beach for spring break...sounds like a violation to me.

The SEC has a network dedicated to one school for the sole purpose of keeping an entire conference in line?
I didn't know that.
I didn't know that.

I'm all for bashing tSEC commissioner, but what he said was right.
Problem is why would SEC teams need to travel when teams are trying to come to our territory?
We do not need more exposure in the industrial wasteland of the north. And out west the friction of distance is too great for most of our schools.

right now the SEC has a ban on this kind of stuff. I think what the Commish is saying that if other schools keep it up the the SEC will left the ban thus allowing them to hold practices all over the country. I honestly dont see teams like bama doing this on a regular basis but they do like recruiting from GA. and Texas. Watch out.

My team used to do this every year during Christmas. We would train at one of the boarding school/athletics academies in the Miami area. We did not have any interactions with the high school kids though. IDK if that would have been against any sort of NCAA recruiting violations. I would estimate that 75% of the college teams in swimming did a similar trip.

thats it? Also since when did Texas become SEC territory?

Umm since they added A&M
And 8 states making up half the recruits...I realize who I am talking to but that is a bit absurd. WE HAVE 50 OF THOSE!!

Got 3 sentences in a knew you swam... Swam in college too, and we occasionally had college teams stop in with my club team in Jacksonville on the way south. Most teams ended up between boca and MIA. I don't think the bump rule applies in our non revenue lol. And f Christmas training after a mini taper early December.

FYI - The SEC doesn't frick around. They're like the damn Gestapo.
Tread lightly, Michigan.
Did you see what they just did to Ole Miss at Bama's request?

Students? What students.
The % of guys on a team that could get into even places like LSU, Alabama and Auburn on academic merit is small.
For places like Texas, Michigan, UGA and UF, it is even smaller.
For some private schools, almost none of those "students" are getting in.
The whole thing is a joke. It's all about the conferences and the schools. The "students" are not a factor.
