Las Vegas and Quebec City did submit bids. Get your shite together Seattle.

The application deadline for NHL expansion teams was Monday afternoon. As expected, Las Vegas and Quebec City submitted their pitches before it passed.
The bigger news is which city didn’t. Seattle, long considered the NHL’s most desired expansion city, didn’t submit a bid for a team, according to reports.
That’s despite three ownership groups in three locations having publicly stated their interest in pursuing a franchise in the region.
The problem, as it’s been for the NHL in Seattle, is logistics and politics. Victor Coleman, the real estate maven leading the effort to bring a team to the SoDo area of Seattle, has yet to get the city to revise its public funding for an arena, which is currently approved only if an NBA team is the first tenant.

Seattle needs to work on getting an NBA team first. It's not a really big hockey town and the Sonics were supported by fans and there's a natural rivalry with Portland. There's a reason why they failed to submit a bid. No one really wants the NHL in Seattle.

They probably knew they had no chance vs those two, considering LV is getting the Coyotes next year and Quebec City already has a state of the art Arena built for an NHL team + max fan support.
Seattle will have to be next round if/when.

Bettman has denied that the Coyotes are moving to Las Vegas.

Right, that's the main reason it's guaranteed to be happening.

Well, if it's an expansion team, they wouldn't replace the Coyotes. It would just be a new team.

It's not an expansion team, Coyotes are being moved to Vegas.

They should move to Vegas. Phoenix and Fla are the welfare orgs of the NHL.

According to the New York Post.
The articles today specifically talk about these being expansion teams.

I was gonna apply for NHL expansion, then I got high.

Right, because of the bid deadline today.
What will happen here is first, next year, the Arizona Coyotes will become the Las Vegas Black Knights.
Then, if/when expansion is real and the League is ready, they will reopen bidding, likely for the 2017-18 season, for two new expansion teams, one of which is guaranteed to be Quebec City.
Whether or not Seattle would be ready by that time, who knows, I hope so.

They're on Pacific Time

Seattle is a big catch 22...they won't build an arena unless there is at least the guarantee of an NBA team at the minimum. Until the NBA comes back Seattle will never have an NHL team. Seattle isn't a big hockey city, but I still think a Seattle hockey team will be supported well, at least until the novelty wears off and they reach Mariner level of suckage

We're probably not getting the Coyotes, though the Times story makes me think.
Expansion it is, us and QC. Seattle or Portland might get the Coyotes. Glendale has had executive sessions for the city council the last two Mondays with no leaks, which is super unusual for Glendale.
It Foley bought the Coyotes, he just wasted $2 million on an expansion application.

Coyotes aren't going anywhere despite what the New York Post (which is really not a legitimate news source) reports.
It's a matter of whether they move to Scottsdale and partner with ASU or move back to downtown Phoenix where they actually belong. Glendale has a bunch of idiots in their city council. They complain about the lack of revenue coming in yet they only host 8 concerts in the past year at Gila River Arena. Add onto that the 41 hockey games and the 8 Cardinals fames nearby and it's not enough to stimulate their economy. The coyotes need help but moving isn't happening in the next year.

They only have 8 events (not sure that's the actual number) because they hired the Coyotes to manage the arena for $15 million dollars a year. The City of Glendale subsidizes the Coyotes and loses 8 million a year doing it.
They're not idiots now, they were idiots three years ago.
Glendale trying to get out of this is, believe it or not, the best move they could make.

They still are. The City of Glendale couldn't even handle working with the Super Bowl Committee over the past two or so years over basic logistics. The NFL Experience block party deal ended up in downtown Phoenix, 20 miles from Glendale. ESPN and media all set up in Scottsdale, 40 minutes away from the stadium.
Hopefully the Suns decide to make a move on getting a new arena built soon to share with the Coyotes. I think downtown Phoenix would be ideal. Scottsdale may work as there is money and businesses based here and is an actual destination part of the metro area. Mesa, Chandler, and Gilbert are nearby with big populations that currently have to deal with a 60-90 minute drive one way to get out to Glendale on a weekday.

Meh, Glendale's pretty much broke. Between subsidizing a hockey team with what is essentially an arena management contract that's ridiculously high and essentially equals a welfare payment, handling an elaborate spring training baseball park that was completely crazy, and fighting their trash collection people in court they probably couldn't afford to run utilities out to wherever the networks wanted to set up.
I don't like anyone on the Glendale City Council from what I've seen of them. However, trying to get out of a contract that costs the city dearly supporting a team that can contractually leave in three years anyways seems like a smart move to me.
