Tate is 5'10" maybe 200. Lee is 6 2" or 3 and 240-250...how the hell else is he supposed to hit him save for coming under?

Ill be in the minority but they had to fine Tate for this. The rule was put in place because its completely unfair to defensive players if offensive players get that protection and Defenders dont. Its only fair.

No I hear you and reluctantly agree by the letter of the rule. I think all the defenseless crap is just that though. If you're not going at the guys helmet it should be fair game... Regardless of the side. I just love football and that was about as pure a big hit as you can get. You don't want to get hit don't hang a guy out to dry over the middle of the damn field and certainly watch where the hell you're going. Rugby gets more interesting by the year.

I still think the fine is bullshite. The only way I'd somewhat agree with it is if Tate completely jumped at his head, which looks like he didn't IMO. Keep your head on a swivel like you've been taught since you were 10 and you won't get your arse knocked out.

so if a guys not looking he's defenseless?

seems like a recipe for good pass rushers... just turn your head and run towards the QB. They can't hit you.

Clean hit, not sure what the fuss is about.

If Sean Lee had a clean look at a RB or WR, he would do the same thing and it would be clean. Golden Tate simply made an immaculate block on a guy not looking, that is legal. He was facing the ball and heading in that direction. Someone needs to explain how a person is defenseless in FOOTBALL.

Wrong. If Lee had done this to Tate going over the middle before the ball got there (or right as it did which is the only comparable situation) he would have been flagged, fined, and wouldve had to "talk" to the commisioner. Tate had to get fined under the letter of the rule (that all the teams agreed upon) and the rule is there to equalize the field

Not if Tate had the ball.

Or if Tate was making a play on a defender that just intercepted the ball and Sean Lee was blocking for him. I am sorry but that was a clean hit and the rules are dumb
