Group specialization can be attributed a groups dedicated and persistent focus on a certain activity/sport.

Long before blacks ruled basketball, Jews were the go to players in the early 1900s. Basketball has always catered itself to being an urban laden game. Jews were concentrated in the ghettos of that time and as a result they produced many of the better play ballers of that time. It's no coincidence that the black proliferation in the sport took off as blacks made it into the city / were regulated to the ghettos due to discrimination.

South Asians arent any more "well equipped" to be spelling bee champs than any other group -- however, they specialize their resources, talents and efforts into This sport from a early age. And they place a social stigma on the sport as well. There are literally minor league Asian American spelling leagues which fosters a competitive landscape for these young pupils. And the best of the best come out of there.

Dumb jock sports takes, which largely ever look into why things are the way they are or why they came to be, just look shallowing at apparent disparities and then ask dumb questions.

Espn is better for having the Pablo Torres and Bomani Jones and Dan Lebatards of this world

Baseball can also be a pretty expensive sport over a period of time.

A kid used to be able to pay $50-$100 and play 20+ games in an actual league. I've seen a major shift to "travel ball" and I think that has had an impact on lots of families. That shite ain't cheap.

The basis of the argument of it being "too white" insinuates that the MLB doesn't want any minorities which is totally untrue due to all the huge presence of Hispanic players.

Yet 90% of baseball fights are between a white guy and a foreign guy and the leagues traditionalists have been pushing back for years against any sort of change to a lot of baseballs dumb culture stalwarts.

Why do baseball "purists" feel the need to hold on to some many dumb and baseless traditions that don't reflect the times?

The game is beautiful and they really should open it up to a wider audience.

Change is not bad

Do you realize that blacks made up a disproportionate percentage of MLB players from 1968 to 1998?

Maybe this has more to do with "Like Mike, if I could be like Mike" than your racist rhetoric suggests.

I'd say it's more white players choosing which sports they want to go into than black players,
And that's more of an socio- economic / longitudinal study that is over russillos head

How many inner city schools have quality baseball programs or the funding needed to support one ?

Yet they continue to put football teams on the field? You don't think that costs more?

If you feel like high school football is a revenue sport, then maybe some of those same people could come out and support the baseball program.

BTW, how do you think these country bumpkin rural towns put baseball teams on the field?

What did I say that is explicity racist? I only get called "racist" because I refuse to play dumb on issues and because I recognize the racial and socioeconomic components of many issues.

During that time there was a DIRECT black pipeline for players : the negro leagues. That does not exist anymore and we're probably 2-3 generations removed from the players that actually remember it.

The negro leagues and intregation played a large part in that spike; did you ever consider that?

The negro leagues basically ended in 1950 or so

I'm not understanding how basketball is so much cheaper than baseball. And how, if that's the case, all these poor Central American countries can have so many talented players.

I have a cousin who plays travel ball in the surburbs outside of Los Angeles. His parents are dropping 6K-8K for that one sport. It's gotten completely out of hand.

Not everything needs to change. Baseball is a great example of that. If you don't have the patience to appreciate it then don't watch or play

The ridiculous part of the argument is that it's okay to acknowledge that black people are inherently better at certain things than white people, but you are a racist if you insinuate the reciprocal of that.

Cute, any real response?

ETA: you can even hear how uncomfortable Adnan is when Ryen brings it up. You can't have an honest conversation about race in this country without someone calling you a racist.
