You mean those same majors that were offered to 100% of the rest of the student body at UNC?

The athlete vs non athlete ratio was outrageous. And they threw the football and women's basketball team under the bus so they were obviously doing something wrong.

Laugh all you want but the NCAA can not tell a university what it HAS to offer. They offered the classes to the whole student body.

According to NCAA rules at the time, if cheating benefited the eligibility of an athlete, and a of the university staff knowingly participated, it is considered academic fraud.

Pretty sure it hit both those requirements

How were they cleared?

No basketball players took the classes? We know that is false, and we know that a university staff knowingly participated.

It hits both requirements

226 basketball players took the classes

Furthermore, they were steered that way by academic advisors of the b-ball team.

The NCAA turning a blind eye = innocence. That's the whole discussion.....

quote:

This is the only part that mentions the mens basketball program. And it's a very very small amount over "18yrs". And all they could find evidence of, was that the academic advisors (not coaches) steered them to take the classes to stay eligible. That shite happens all over the country, and at every damn school with an athletic program. Just like paying players.

quote:

Rashad McCants, the second-leading scorer on the North Carolina basketball team that won the 2004-05 national title, told ESPN's "Outside the Lines" that tutors wrote his term papers, he rarely went to class for about half his time at UNC, and he remained able to play largely because he took bogus classes designed to keep athletes academically eligible.

quote:

cCants told "Outside the Lines" that he could have been academically ineligible to play during the championship season had he not been provided the assistance. Further, he said head basketball coach Roy Williams knew about the "paper class" system at UNC. The so-called paper classes didn't require students to go to class; rather, students were required to submit only one term paper to receive a grade.

quote:

McCants also told "Outside the Lines" that he even made the dean's list in the spring of 2005 despite not attending any of his four classes for which he received straight-A grades. He said advisers and tutors who worked with the basketball program steered him to take the paper classes within the African-American Studies program.

Hahahaha......Rashaad McCants. Bitter, mad, looking for one last limelight spot. That's old news too. 12 yrs ago. Nothing ever came of that either. All it did was blow the rest of the athletic programs up. Never did it do any harm to what he intended which was the men's basketball team.

Also.....

If there is one thing I am pretty sure the NCAA doesn't do is turn a blind eye. Except for child molestation..... If anything, the NCAA makes examples out of people for way smaller shite.

I was literally quoting your own words on that first part.

We know for a fact that over 200 basketball players took the classes. We know a university staff member participated.

Therefore, we know the rules were broken

How many stories will suffice on the inconsistency of the NCAA when it comes to punishing larger

Will 5 work?

One renegade program that offered an easy class open to all students - not just athletes. What a scandal I'm sure this never happens at other schools NCAA looking into matters outside their jurisdiction

Please tell me that Carolina fans don't actually think thar Roy isn't a hypocritical douchebag. He's a great coach and you can pull for your boys but you can't tell me that right? The sad part is growing up you knew Carolina did it the right way under Smith, I pulled for IU growing up (never cared for Dale) but you had to respect their program. Everytime I hear Roy talk it makes me cringe a little because he is so full of shite. I always respected UK fans cause they own their transgressions like men, UNC fans can learn a lesson from them.

Unless I'm incorrect, they initially were dropped and then were re-added with the last NOA that was sent to UNC.

It is quite amazing how slow this investigation is moving compared to schools like Ole Miss and Louisville.
