Didn't Tiger Woods win the U.S Open with a torn ACL? Rory should man up and play.

Golfers can play competitively well into there 60s, I aint even mad.
Rory doesn't strike me as someone trying to break records, just a guy that makes a living doing it. He will be fine.

Winning a championship isn't enough now. Players want to do it under "physical duress" to really make a story.

He has an excuse for not playing well and becomes a hero if he wins.

He'll play.

26 years old, has won 3 of the 4 majors and has 4 major victories total. He doesn't have to speak in press conferences like Tiger/Kobe etc. to have a killer instinct and a desire to break records

He's got the killer instinct when he wants to, but he doesn't turn it on 24/7 like Tiger did back when he was coming up. Rory likes to have fun outside of golf, and he doesn't take golf as serious as even a Phil did. I like that in him, a guy I would like to have a few beers with.

I think it's been announced he's going to miss it. As good of a player as he is, it's smarter to miss just a little bit of time and get healthy instead of risking a prolonged injury.

As short as he is that could be a possibility.

It's awesome that you personally know Rory so well.

Tell us more about his likes and dislikes, and how seriously he takes his lifelong career.

Agree 100%. He was the "New Tiger" that week. Then it was Jordan, and there will be others that come along and become "The New Tiger"

Except they wont be

I am going off topic a little bit - and things may have changed since I followed the PGATour in the 90s...

...there is some pour grinder that is on the alternate list...that will have to travel and incur expenses...and may never tee it up and Thursday.

I know corporate sponsorships can help a little bit and the big boys would offer jet rides to some of the average journeymen...but I think those days are gone.

I think the euro and pga tours (as well as events like the opens, PGA, masters) should subsidize travel for alternate players wether the make te field or not.

$2,000 makes a world of difference - especially for a hooters type player that sneaks up on a major event.

McIlroy has too much goofball in him for him to ever settle down to business and become a truly dominant, great champion.

Based on what.. He was playing soccer with his pals... Whats he supposed to do stay home and do nothing????

There will never be another Tiger.

He was #1 in the world for 5 straight years... twice.

This. But unfortunately, he is past his prime and will likely never regain his dominance, IMHO.

Possibly. But we will see who can overthrow what he has already done.
