Yeah, you beat me to it by a few minutes. The big question is whether or not Howard would extend with the Celtics, and I think he definitely would.
I agree. Hurt Dwight Howard is leading the league in rebounding and top 5 in blocks. He's putting up 16/12/2 coming off back surgery and people decide its not good enough because Kobe decides to play Doogie Howser.

Lets wait for the stitches in the guy's back to heal before we turn him into Greg Ostertag

exactly why would you mess with that by adding a locker room cancer like Howard?

Because I have an inkling that Howard's poon-ness won't have an effect on the combined 44 years experience between KG/Pierce/Terry.

Howard just had his back cut open and he's not healthy yet. If his legs do actually get numb during games, then he shouldn't even be playing.

If the Celtics docs check out Howard and decide he'll eventually get back to 100%

How often do players make it back to 100 percent when they're dealing with back injuries though? See T-Mac and Pippen, who were in less physical positions.

To play devil's advocate (barely):

-They're 8-1 since Rondo went down.
-A Pierce/KG/Howard frontcourt would be pretty loaded, especially in the east.
-You laugh about it, but they beat the Heat a week ago without Rondo. If they can convert a guy that didn't even play in that game into potentially the best C in the NBA, who's to say they can't do it 4 times in the playoffs?

It's a risky move, but with the way the Celtics have been playing without RR, you can't assume that it would be a terrible move.

1) this is probably a bullshite rumor floated by someone outside of the Lakers or Celtics management.

2) I hate how Howard has behaved over the last 2-3 years but I'm torn about whether it would be a bad idea if the rumor were legit.

The Celtics are really at the absolute end of their run with Pierce and Garnett. Does getting DH make them a favorite against the Heat? No, but KG and DH will present a problem for them and I don't know what else the Celtics could do to try and win this year.

I'm torn. Losing Rondo is a big loss for them but they will have increased their chances of doing something this year and if they could keep DH they might now have a real plan for rebuilding.

First of all, given that Rondo is hurt, there is no question that the best chance for a "last hurrah" lies with Howard.

Second, even if Howard doesn't blow the Celtics's socks off, he won't necessarily just walk. The C's will have sign and trade opportunities. I'm a Rondo fan, and I HATE Howard, but if I had to hit the reset button on a great team, I'd prefer to do it with an elite center over a very good PG, especially since each has their own personal issues.

The health angle is a very fair point, but thats not what i'm hearing from people.

All im hearing and reading is how much of pussy the guy is and how terrible he is.

And if we take our biases out, and just evaluate Howard based only on how he's playing this year, most people would agree that the guy is having a good year. But, we're comparing him to what he was and what we thought he would be in LA...

...AND he's in the middle of a dumpster fire, so everything gets blown up.

This. They have a better chance with the current roster plus Howard as far as THIS YEAR goes.

If Gasol were an expiring, I'd say that there's a SMALL chance of that happening. The Celtics could get a lot more for Rondo right now. Hell, if they offered Rondo to my Hornets for Vasquez/Lopez/Henry, that would put them in much better shape to not only start over, but to compete this year, and I think my Hornets would consider it

I was half joking about Gasol but it wouldn't surprise me. I doubt Ainge would be dumb enough to let Mitch pull that off.

No one has even mentioned that the salaries aren't even close for a straight up Dwight/rondo swap, Boston would have to throw in close to $8m in filler to match. I think this is just smoke, I would be floored if LA traded Howard. No way

That feeling is based on nothing considering his bitchassness GREATLY effected Kobe 16 years, Pau 11 years and Metta 13 years of experience.

Lets get one thing straight Ainge is infinitely smarter than Mitch, he would never let some legacy boss him around, he would get out.

He and Pau can't be on the court together. Attitudes aside, their skill sets won't allow it.

Kobe is 12th in the NBA in PER right now despite being 34.

Artest hasn't been a great player in a while.

None of them work together because none of them can run. Pair Howard up with some that can (for now, before Howard gets healthy) and you're golden.

What MEH trade! Two big names switching, but they are just exchanging the youngest most talented guys on each roster that just goes to a roster with older players who are going to retire in the next 3 years. So its a neutral deal in the end IMO, because as they get better and hit their primes the core rosters of their respective teams will be declining drastically. Anyways, I would hate this trade because its just another big trade ONLY involving the NBA's media darlings, so IDGAF NBA, and your shite can DIAF.

Howard is arguably the worst person in the NBA.

self righteous, arrogant, never proven to truly be worth the money/time, and has a sense of entitlement through the roof. when the going gets tough, he throws others under the bus and wants to be traded. a true sack of shite this guy is.

Rondo tore his ACL. With his position who knows how well he recovers.

So would a Howard/Pau/Metta/Nash/Kobe team. Pau/Metta/Kobe are actually younger too.

Rondo for Howard rumor per CBS

The Lakers as they are now with Steve Nash and Howard run their entire offense through Kobe.

At least Nash can shoot extremely well.

If they get Rondo, I can't possibly see them running their offense through Rondo. If Dantoni doesn't run it through Nash, it's hard to believe he'll run it through Rondo. That being said, how would Rondo thrive with LAL?

Well to be fair, they would also be getting rid of another locker room cancer.
