Rodgers has all the tools, no doubt. I think the only thinking he needs to be truly considered the GOAT is longevity. If he has that, he eclipses nearly every passing record out there. HE IS the best in the game at this time. But GOAT? Time will tell.

Until then, give me Joe Montana. And I'll certainly agree with Sanders being the GOAT at running back. Easily.

Are you really questioning the fact that some people consider Joe Montana as one of the GOAT?

REALLY?

Aaron Rodgers is going to put up his fifth career 4,000+ yard season. Joe Montana was never above 3,944.

Rodgers career passer rating is 106.5 to Montana's 92.3. Rodgers had 30 or more TDs four times already, Montana had 1. Rodgers should have more passing yards than Montana in about 4 years.

I could go on, but I sense there is some revisionist memories going on.

Aaron Rodgers and the Packers are the reason I still have two wrists that aren't slit after this weekend.

FWIW this shouldn't be used.

Why? Yes, the game has changed, but at it's core, being the quarterback is about throwing the ball. So Montana didn't throw it as much back then, but that being said, how can you then say that he was a better QB? What about what he did makes him better?

And I didn't look up the rushing stats, but am guessing Rodgers numbers would be much better there as well.

I never argued Montana is better; all I did was tell you a stat you probably should not be using.
Focus on efficiency and "per" stats. The QB rating you posted earlier is a good start.

Those are great and all, but the times are different. Montana's receivers were mugged at the line of scrimmage and beat on going down the field. If Montana didn't get rid of the ball, he was at risk of being knocked out for entire seasons (see Jim Burt). If Montana threw a pass over the middle of the field, his receiver might not make it back to the huddle with his helmet. These are issues that Rodgers doesn't have to deal with.

While I do agree that Rodgers is great, and the best in the game today, it doesn't explain away that fact that he only has one Super Bowl appearance, so far, and I'm not sure he has ever had the #1 seed going into the playoffs. If you were a NFC team in the 80s, the road to the Super Bowl traveled through the 49ers. I'm not sure you can say that about the Packers right now.

If i posted the Packers defensive rankings the past six or seven years you'd have your answer. Unfortunately they've been bad enough to overcome how good Rodgers is on the other side of the ball.

They were actually the 1 seed the year following the 2010 super bowl (15-1 record) and lost at home to the Giants. I don't think I've ever been more disappointed or angry after a loss than that one.

People always resort to the team performance thing. He's lost 4 playoff games, and in 3 of them the defense gave up 37+ points. He has the highest postseason passer rating of all time by a comfortable margin. He is NOT the reason theyve lost playoff games. The one year he had a solid defense they won the super bowl. Aaron Rodgers shouldn't have to apologize for not having the defenses that Brady had in New England at the start of his career
