I am glad for their sake he didn't give in for Rondo, because they are an interesting team to watch, but saying he didn't luck into Josh Smith (a max player cut in his second year of the contract) is a bit ridiculous

It's hilarious how you see luck. Morey has had way more bad luck than good luck. Morey had Yao and McGrady constantly injured, and he has finished second for many stars. What he has been able to do without ever tanking is remarkable.

The Spurs winning the lottery to land Duncan was luck. The Rockets winning the lottery to win Yao was terrible luck. Dude ended up holding us back for years. We built well around him, and his body collapsed every time we because a serious thread. Morey is the best GM in the NBA at staying flexible, which means the Rockets aren't completely screwed when things go wrong.

Seriously y'all. Go play in traffic. No one else cares how great y'all think Morey is.

You aren't giving these guys nearly enough credit. Each one of them would have a place in this series.

You don't think Dallas could use another rim protector after they gave up like 15 dunks last night?

Dallas now has no one who can guard Harden, Crowder could.

Jameer would be a much better option at PG then what they have now

I can all but guarantee you this would be far tougher for the Rockets if they still had Brandan Wright. He played very well against the Rockets when he was on the team at the beginning of this year, and would have been huge when Tyson Chandler isnt on the court.

Because Rockets' fans love the Rockets, and fans of every other team on here hate the Rockets.

Fans of other teams start talking about the Rockets in a thread just as often if not more often than Rockets fans do.

Wondering the same thing. Got the ESPN Mobile blip that Carlisle acknowledged Rondo wouldn't play as a Maverick.

I come to this thread for more details.

Half the page is Rocket fans arguing how they didn't want Rondo. But if they did want him they could've have gotten him. ???.I didn't even know a Rondo to Houston deal was ever in the works.

Back on topic. So is Rondo just done? I can't see him fitting anywhere or getting nearly what he thinks he deserves in the next contract. Dude seems to have checked out as far as basketball, might better retire

You like to re-write history.

Daryl Morey entered with a team already in place. The stars were Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady.

Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady both were injured a lot at the end of the season when trying to make a playoff run. There is nothing Morey can do about that.

Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady both had what were essentially career-ending injuries. Imagine that... the two franchise players magically disappear into dust and you can't even make a good trade for them. They ended up worthless. Morey could do nothing about that.

So for 3 years after that, Morey had to find a star player without tanking. The owner, Leslie Alexander, did not want to scrap everyone and tank.

With nothing but role players, and no real star player, the Rockets finished 9th in the West 3 straight years, just barely missing out on the playoffs each time. Those Rockets teams were the equivalent of OKC without Durant and Westbrook or the Pelicans without Anthony Davis. And they still competed for a playoff spot.

Then Morey gives max money to bench player James Harden. Many people thought OKC won that trade. I can even pull up the thread here where everyone was talking about how the Rockets got "trade raped".

And since then, he's made a bunch of moves, including signing Dwight Howard, and in the second year of Harden and Howard, the team earned a 2-seed and are looking to make it past the first round.

He re-built a team that lost both of it's star players for nothing in about 3 years.

Morey has done a fine job.

So well put. Not to mention that Morey has gotten us Donatas, Parsons, and Capela, outside of the lottery.

If you actually look at Morey's work, there isn't a better GM in sports. He does all you can ask of a GM.

Reading the Scott Brooks thread then coming back to this one is what stood out to me.

Matt Moore was correct the other day when he said they are the worst fan base in the league.

I don't think he's done, but he certainly isn't helping himself.

My good friend played in the NBA and told me the problem with Rondo a long time ago. I didn't want to believe it. Turns out he was 100% right about him.

I has sad.

Yeah someone should start a new, "Rondo is a fricking head case that even Bill Simmons can't argue for (Please no Rocket related talk)"

I mean, I know it's not a perfect fit. But why not "play ball" til the end of the season, keep your stock at a decent level, and in the off season ask to be traded?

At this point, I think Rondo is destined to be an over-paid Knick.

He's going to have to have a similar transformation to Z-Bo's in Memphis. If you can't work with a rookie coach, and you can't work with championship coaches, then who do work with, some re-tread without Authority (Mike Brown, Woodson et al).

I dont think Phil is going to overpay for Rondo. With the amount of quality point guards on playoff teams, I cant find a place for him, other then the often rumored Lakers. Maybe the Pacers could grab him and get something out of him. Play Rondo and Hill together.

Playoff caliber teams with good point guards that Rondo is a big upgrade over:
Warriors
Spurs
Portland
Memphis
Clippers
Cavs
Bulls
Rockets(with Bev-essentially cheaper version)
Hawks
Celts doesn't want him
Dallas doesn't want him
OKC
Nets have on overpaid guard(s) on the books
Bucks wouldn't want him
Phoenix
Pels need no more guards who cant shoot
Raptors
Wizards
Miami with Dragic

that's off the top of my head. I'm sure there is more if I think about it.

Crazy potential with his physical tools. Was always missing an outside shot, now is missing a brain and likely a job.

Complete talent waste

Add Terrence jones outside of the lottery. Signed asik to the poison pill and got excellent production out of him in relation to his contract. Turned Lin Into terry and brewer. And on and on he's the man

He was my favorite player in the league for a while. He's just never gotten along with coaches in the past.

I just never got this move. The fit never made sense.

For the record, the person who really brought the Rockets into the discussion was Geauxgurt, who randomly talked about the Rockets when he said:

quote:

It was a risk, and didn't pan out, but Houston was pushing for Rondo too, so acting like Morey is some genius because Dallas offered more is just stupid homeristic rationalizing.

This happens in almost every thread.

So many people on this site hate Houston, and are the first ones to bring up the Rockets in a thread (usually to say something negative or troll), and Rockets fans respond, and then other people join in and argue with the Rockets fans.

Then you complain.
