Which is better and more conducive to winning?

Why do the other schools want the 1 and done guys moreso than the guys Roy gets?

Good question. Would a coach rather have Joel Berry or Markelle Fultz? Just looking at their college careers the answer should be easy. But the coach is taking Fultz every time.

Why would it be easy in favor of Berry? Who do you think was better this season?

Fultz but 4 years vs 1 shel. That is my point in all of this.

But I think the counterpoint is in the 3-4 years you get w/Berry, which includes a 1st year he didn't play much, you can just get 3-4 one and done guys. Obviously they won't all be as good as Fultz, but the 3-4 collectively are likely better than Berry.

I don't think they schools want them more than Roy, I just believe it works out like that. Guys know if they go to Duke, they will have the GOAT college coach that will likely have them win conference, and possible go to Final Four or win the natty. I am not sure why guys keep going to Kentucky to be honest. Dude has several one and dones every year. Has his pick of the litter, and still can't win shite. Has one national title. Sure they win conference, but hell the SEC is dog shite in basketball. What appears to work for Williams at UNC, is that he appears to go after guys who will stay. I am actually surprised Jackson didn't leave after last year. If they don't have him, no way Carolina is in the F4.

Having 3-4 one and done "collectively" doesn't give you chemistry. Which is something that Roy's teams have compared to programs that aren't as regularly successful.

Roy wants one and done talent. He can't get it so he ends up with 5* talent that stays for multiple years.

Let me know if you're still confused and I'll simplify it even more for you.

Since the 2012 recruiting class Roy has gotten only 4 5* players. KU had 8 in the same amount of time and you dont even want to know how many UK has had.

UNC has not been on par with UK, Duke, and KU recruiting. Roy isnt getting the same number of 5* recruits nor the same level of talent, in fact he is getting far less than many teams.

So yes you are partially right, but what you draw from this and your general theory is so far off base. All of those teams still keep top tier 5* talent around for their SO and JR years.

He is having to do more with less, and is still beating these teams but yet he's somehow lucky?

I am curious to see the benefit players see to going to UK. Cal has done less in the tournament given the talent pool he signs every year.

Granted, I don't know if he does anything specifically to deserve any credit for this, but his players seem to have a pretty solid track record in the pros.

What I am getting at. There is probably a handful of schools that are going to get a player like that. UNC, Duke, KU, UK, Syracuse, Louisville. Maybe a couple others. Would these players be any different in the Pro's going to one of those schools as opposed to Kentucky?

For example, Bama in football. They go there, they are pretty much guaranteed to win the SEC 2-3 times, maybe 2 NC's, and get drafted pretty high. So Bama can guarantee some serious advantages to going there. Can UK advertise the same? You really can't do much in one year, except win the SEC. Outside that, Cal's track record can't guarantee much past that.

it's a good strategy because it worked, and as you said, he did it with less talent.

you can not call the man lucky based on any metric that you or anyone else used. He is beating teams with inferior talent, period.

well, UK players get drafted in the first round at an alarmingly high rate.

Maybe not the best scoring system but it shows 5 stars recruited and the % that get drafted. Its pretty clear you have a better chance of being a 1st round pick if you go with Coach Cal.

But should have better results considering they have 2-3 possible lottery picks per season.

Yep.

Don't get me wrong, I'm positive that this is why he gets so many of the top of the top recruits. But again, is there anything he's doing specifically in terms of coaching or whatever.

Or is it just somehow he started getting top recruits that got drafted high, and it snowballed from there, with guys following those other guys, but not necessarily anything he's doing specifically, other than getting those guys.

I don't disagree. 6 final fours in his career and 1 title.

My overall point where I disagreed with you was your comment about how you don't understand why recruits still go to UK.

It's definitely not to win natty's. Now if they'd just say, I'm going to UK so I have a better draft spot after my one year here, I'd fall for that.
