I Blame the schedule for that
The playoff games need to be played after all the other bowl games.
Make the semis on January 2nd and the championship game a week later. No other bowl game can have a game after January 1.
Watching these new year day bowl games after last nights game is retarded.

No Semis should be played before any bowl games and then championship primetime on New Years Day

You can actually blame the Rose Bowl for the debacle. ESPN wanted to play the semi-finals today. But the Rose Bowl refused to move their game to another day. Tradition trumped practicality in this particular case. So expect more of the same every year the Rose Bowl isn't a semi-final event.

You know how you fix that? Tell the Rose Bowl they can go frick themselves and won't ever be included in the playoff game rotation until they decide to cooperate.
