While Owners don't put up all the money, IMO a good owner finds ways to constantly keeps their stadium up-to date every season, regardless of doing so by building new stadiums or through major renovations.

issue is that in such a historic city like new orleans, the superdome has become linked to the city. Destroying it or building over it at this point is not going to be easy. Nor is finding available land to do it.

Aside from hiring Ditka, what terrible decisions has Benson made?

Lambeau field has a rich and great history. The Mercedes Benz Superdome.....not so much.

I like you and all, but come on man. I'm not saying its on the same level as Lambeau, but the Superdome is full of history.

I'll never understand why Lambeau is automatically some great football shrine to most fans.

If you can't see why an older stadium situated in a small town that has seen a good amount of HOF players and historic moments isn't unique for NFL fans, I'm not sure what else to say

From about 1968 to 1992 they were shite and players on other teams used to get threatened to be shipped off to Green Bay if they were doing something their current team didn't agree with

They were bad in that stretch, and still sold out every game at Lambeau. Don't see the relevance of this regardless

Not to derail the thread - we can all agree the owner of my team, the Dolphins, is abysmal - but what was the story with why Jim Mora got the boot from the Saints? I thought he did a great job dragging a historically awful franchise to the cusp of greatness. Was it a personality conflict with ownership?

if this guy is #17, then there must be some absolutely terrible owners out there... granted, he can't be any worse than bud adams.

Benson bought a team that had never had a winning season ever, and in three years turned them into a team that had 7 straight non-losing seasons, 4 playoff appearances in 6 years, and a division title in that span.

And how many playoff wins did they have? Oh that's right. It only took his team 16 seasons to win one playoff game, and another six years to win a second one.

And for the people giving the Patriots crap for drafting Brady in the sixth round but giving Benson credit for Brees, don't forget if Miami's medical staff clears Brees he is playing for them and not New Orleans.

You would also have to be in a coma to forget about the majority of the 90s.
You don't get to pick and choose which years you want to pick.

And someone correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't it not until 2010 that you could even use a credit card inside the stadium?

Um, they completely demolished the inside of Soldier Field and rebuilt it. The exterior facade may still be there, but it's a completely different stadium now.

Benson has been a pretty good owner for the last 10 or 15 years or so. He has been willing to shell out the bucks. he hires people and lets them do their job. when they do not succeed in their job, he fires them.

One of the 3 smallesst markets and the Saints had the third highest payroll in the uncapped 2010 season (behind moneyprinting franchises Cowboys/Redskins).

If we had an offense worth a shite in the early 90s(and not in the same division as the 9ers that bensons fault too?) we would've had multiple playoff wins.

Benson hired loomis who gave brees a look so yes he gets some credit

IIRC the dolphins(and your master saban) wanted culpepper.

To be honest ranking NFL owners is retarded(like who gives a frick?)

That's a little low for Benson. I would've put him somewhere near the middle. He doesn't really go above and beyond as an owner but he's not horrible either like JJ mircomanaging all the time.

I may be way off with this ( I was only 7 when he was fired), but I think his loyalty to his assistants is what did him in. The Colts fired him because he wouldn't fire Vic Fangio, and I think something similar went down in New Orleans

B.S.

Remember Colston. Someone asked SP how he knew he would be so good as a late round pick. Seans reply was if he knew he would be that good he would have taken him in the first.

Benson can suck it. I'll never forgive him for trying to bail and move the team to San Antonio. Total dick move.

Agree the list is a joke...

But also this its impossible to "rank the owners". Most of the NFL owners dont do anything.

Kraft is listed at the 2nd best owner in the league. And I love Kraft and do think hes a good owner. But he literally does nothing when it comes to the day to day football operations.

The only owner that does do anything related to football is Jerry Jones, and hes considered the worst owner in the league.

There isnt a scale where you can rank owners.
