What's the deal?

Cardinals and Suns have both reached championship games. Diamondbacks even won one. But does anyone really care in the desert?

Mostly young teams combined with transplants/retirees. Same problem Florida/Miami has

Relatively new "big" city and a transplant town.

See the rockets and astros.

Can't speak to the other sport's attendance, but I went to a Coyotes game in Dec that was full, and they were having a bad season.

Last I heard the Yotes had pretty good attendance? But yeah, way too many transplants and snowbirds really dilutes a stronghold fanbase. And the Cardinals sucked prior to that one Super Bowl run. Now they've got "lifelong" fans popping up out of nowhere same goes for ASU. CC/non-college guys are cheering for the Devils now. We're starting to build up a mish mash of fans... Anyway we can get it I guess? Haha

I've kinda been impressed by the opposite - they seem to support their teams pretty well

As forksup said, it's the transplants. It's a strange dynamic that frustrates me as a fan of all the Phoenix pro teams, especially when people who moved here trash the home town teams. I get it, root for the team you grew up rooting for in the city you came from, but at least support the local teams. Chicago fans are the worst in this regard out here.

With that said, the Suns have always been the #1 team in Phoenix. The Cardinals have come on really strong with support since opening the new stadium.

FWIW, I was born in Los Angeles and moved to Phoenix when I was young. We were Dodgers fans but once the Diamondbacks came into existence in 1998, we got season tickets and have been a fan since. Strongly dislike the Dodgers (and all L.A. teams)

I don't think Phoenix teams are any less supported than others in similar sized cities. All have had strong support when the teams were good. Just so happens right now all but the Cardinals are terrible.

The Cards have sold out every game since the got a new stadium. Suns have normally drawn well and the D-Backs seem to be about average. Coyotes franchise has been a mess for years, so that doesn't really help.

Everyone cares about the Cards but people only care about the other sports when they are winning.

Suns are pretty big here. Cardinals are decent and fans support more than Jacksonville but less than packers.

The coyotes made a huge mistake placing the facility in Glendale. Downtown placement would've been able to get a much stronger draw as it's pretty far for the east valley and suburbs to get there.

We are like the 5th largest metro area in the US, I think we are big.

I don't think it's quite that high, it is a fast growing area though

The Yotes have decent attendance which is propped up from Canadian snowbirds. When any Canadian team plays the away fans are usually louder

I traveled to PHX last May. Attended a D-Backs/Padres game. Game was very well attended. Atmosphere was a little stale until the roof was opened in the 6th inning. Watching the roof open was impressive! Game ended in a walk off HR for the D-Backs. I was impressed with their fans.

What I thought sucked was the lack of a true Downtown bar/restaurant scene. No good Southwestern cuisine. I felt like I was in a conglomeration of strip malls rather than downtown at times.

I've never heard of the Az teams having an issue with attendance. The Suns have been there long enough to have their own fanbase, and I've been to DBacks and Yotes games that meant nothing and was impressed with the draw.
