To be fair, you did not stipulate this in your original post.

quote:

I didn't say that no one should care, just that those affected by it or impacted by it.

Beyond that, I agree with you on "internet warriors", but both issues extend past being exclusively "internet warrior" problems in today's America.

Well, I was going that direction in my original post with the "Unless you know them, were directly involved, or it affects your life in some way" portion of my statement, but I was able to get the gist across.

I would be none the wiser if I never knew about it. None of the shite you mentioned directly affects my day to day life in a way that I would notice anything different. That's irrelevant though because I went to the extreme on purpose and I obviously do know and care about 9/11.

The point i was making is you can have that attitude about anything. Why watch sports? None of it affects you. Why watch TV? It doesn't change your life. Why keep up with current events at all? Plane missing in Asia? Who fricking cares?

People care because these events are happening in the world we live in and they are a reflection of society and a look into the types of issues and beliefs that different people have. It might not be YOUR issue or YOUR life but it's interesting and sometimes important to be able to put your shite in perspective by seeing what is going on out there.

That actually does affect your day to day life though.

Legislation and governmental action actually impacts your life. Unless this results in that, it has no impact.

Taxes
Governmental debt
War
Etc
Etc
Etc

If you don't think those affect you, then let's end this discussion now.
quote:

Agreed. I watch for leisure purposes. Wins and losses don't matter to me.
quote:

Why watch TV? It doesn't change your life
Same as above.

If tv vanished tomorrow, it really would not impact my life.
quote:

Why keep up with current events at all?
To see if there is anything important going on, hence the action of whittling what is important from the massive amount of useless crap.
quote:

Plane missing in Asia? Who fricking cares?
The family members of those on the plane, the airline, the Malaysian government probably all care. I don't.
quote:

People care because these events are happening in the world we live in and they are a reflection of society and a look into the types of issues and beliefs that different people have.
People care because it gives them something to focus on. Nothing more, nothing less.

Did you know that a child was killed in China today?

Did you know that someone likely murdered another human in Spain?

Do you care about those incidents?

There is a near infinite number of events occurring daily around this planet. There is only so much we can truly care about.

I do not agree with false sentiment, and that is exactly what the internet warrior movements are.

I'm not sure how to take that any other way, to be honest. Some white dudes make some shitty remarks and you manage to turn that into something against black people for being allowed to do the same. Pretty amazing.

That's tigerdroppings.com whole MO.

Sadly, they dont seem to realize that that perspective/attitude is so antebellum south, early 1800s.

People caring about these and other events are not limited to internet warriors.
