we snatched Houston's RHP Michael Hauschild in Rule 5 today

I don't know if "snatched" is an appropriate description of the Rangers drafting a 26 yr old pitcher that wasn't even in the top 20 for the Astros system.

That said, I hope the guy does well for the Rangers -- apparently he's worked his arse off and has been relentless in pursuing his dream. I hope the best for the man and will be genuinely happy for him if he performs well and sticks with the Rangers all season.

Also, a little off-topic, but I'm looking forward to a full season of this in a Ranger's uniform.

Or Rangers pitchers reactions similar to this.

Cardinals have Fowler coming in for a physical.

Absolutely moronic move that will appease the surface level thinkers.

Sloppy seconds.

.250ish hitter.

Going to be an overpay in years and money.

Cubs are laughing all the way to the bank with a free first round pick from their division rival.

fricking stupid.

Sucks that he might end up in St Louis, but happy for him if he gets a long term deal

Annoying comparison to Heyward talk incoming from the BFIB.

NOT looking forward to that.

Be interesting to see what kind of a year Fowler has next year, if he tails off any. I mean christ the dude just won a WS and is about to get the long term deal he has been working so hard for.

To be completely honest, if I'm CHC (or even LAD, SF or WSH), that lineup doesn't scare me. I still don't think the Cards compete at those teams' level next year.

I cant wait to see the terms of this deal. Cards beat writer claimed they made an "over the top" offer to make sure they would land him

My official guess is 5/85

I can't believe we signed him, just didn't figure we'd be willing to pay for him. I'd be pretty surprised if we overplayed by much, just not something we usually do

It had been reported that Toronto had offered 4/60, and if the report that STL made an "over the top offer" are true then im guessing it will be much more than 4/60

You're an idiot, the Cardinals have no CF currently after moving Grichuk to LF.

So they go and sign the best available one, that also fills the gap at the leadoff hole allowing Carpenter to bat in the middle of the order finally.

Fills a big hole on defense going from worst in CF to above average, with speed.

Even if a slight overpay it is the best move the Cards could possibly make without giving up our top prospects.

It is a huge signing for the Cards and they did exactly as you said, signed the best CF available. Fowler was a major catalyst for the Cubs offense last year. His defense was better as well

Heyward will most likely be 4/88 once it's all said and done.

Why would Heyward opt out if he continues to perform like he has?

He's got 2 consecutive opt outs. Can be 3/65 or 4/88.
