Not having a franchise QB is an excuse for unsuccessful NFL coaches

Bill Obrien will have won 28 games over the past 3 seasons with 8 different starting QBs to deal with. Not a single one of those guys was an an average starter or better.

The Dolphins won 11 games this year with two shitty QBs

His division is dogshit. If he was in the NFC east he would have 4 four-win seasons.

The Broncos have won games with the corpse of Manning,Brock Osweiller, Tebow and Siemian . Build a team and a system and the qb will fall into place

Bill O'Brien is a great head coach. So is Adam Gase.

In the same division the Titans and Colts have franchise qbs but don't win at his level

He also had an elite defense already built for him, but I agree he's a good coach.

The number of coaches in NFL history who came in and truly built a franchise from nothing to legitimate title contender is pretty short.

Same defense that led them to 2-14 before he got there

Why do you think that is?

He brought in a lot of that defense, or at least developed them on his watch.

All year everyone's been shitting on the Texans, now they beat a Raiders team with its 3rd stringer and Bill O'Brien is now a model coach?

In the Free agency era, the list is even shorter... I'd say only Belichick and Carroll (plus Schneider) did it, but both took over mediocre teams, not absolute dreck.

Pre free agency and cap era, there are a few more.

Jimmy Johnson is the obvious. Took over the worst team in the league and built them into a dynasty in basically 3 or 4 yrs.

Walsh did it too. The 49ers were horrendous when he started and basicilly built a 20 yr dynasty.

I would also maybe list Noll, but he wasn't the GM, nor were Lombardi or Landry. Parcells has to be o the list too, he may be the ultimate "fixer" in NFL history.

& yet houston might pull a san francisco & run him off because he & GM doesn't get along

Jim Harbaugh turned a meh franchise into a super bowl contender. Who knows what happens if the lights stay on in New Orleans too.

It is a stretch given how it ended with the 49ers but it appears he is winning the divorce

what's you point? I don't think that's very good; never should even make the playoffs with those records.

the man's a very good defensive coach. the texicans continue to refuse to draft a top QB. they are doomed to near mediocrity without one. their division sucks or they would not even have a .500 record.
