Nike cuts ties with Manny Pacquiao after derogatory comments

"We find Manny Pacquiao's comments abhorrent," the company said in a statement. "Nike strongly opposes discrimination of any kind and has a long history of supporting and standing up for the rights of the LGBT community."
Based on Pacquiao's comments, a spokesman confirmed that he is no longer on the company's endorsement roster.
Pacquiao has endorsed Nike for a little more than eight years.
"Have you seen any animal having male-to-male or female-to-female relations?" Pacquiao said on a Filipino television station earlier this week. "If you have male-to-male or female-to-female [relationships], then people are worse than animals."

That's not very tolerant of Nike.

Animals will frick anything with a hole, what is he talking about

These things are always funny to me because they find Manny's comments offensive because they treat LGBT culture like its inferior. They do this to Spanish players who say similar things.
What they fail to realize is that those comments stem from cultural views. So, ironically, these companies are saying cultures like Manny's and Hispanic cultures are the inferior ones.

I bet Manny really hates seahorses.

Agreed. But Nike is an American company. So they have to worry about America's culture and views, I guess.

IMO it's quite a stretch to get there. It's more of a "his views do not represent our views" thing

They called his statements "abhorrent".

No, it is ascribing ignorance, not inferiority.

Well of course, it's 2016 America, no business that wants to keep their reputation can support a view like that. Employees have to align their worldview to their employers when representing them, not the other way around. I wouldn't keep my job if I said what Pac said publicly, regardless of what my cultural background is

You've obviously never run a business

"Worse than animals" =/= "I personally disagree with their lifestyle"

Sad this happened to him. Hopefully he gets another endorsement deal from another big company. One with more sense.

Okay, so perhaps his word choice could have been a little better, but English is his second language, let's give him a little leeway.
Basically, he was sayiing that being homosexual is biologically kind of weird. And, now, here's the deal. As Americans, we've been told over and over for the past 30 years that it's okay to be gay. That there isn't anything wrong with being gay, and so this comes to form part of our belief system. I'm sure this holds true in Europe as well Social acceptance has bred pressure for more social acceptance, and that cycle goes around and around until basically it's offically okay to be gay.
But now pretend that you aren't from America or Europe, and that it hasn't been beat into your head that being gay is okay. Wouldn't you note that human beings, and in fact all animals, are little more than highly aggressive agents acting on behalf of our genes.* That we are essentially gene propagation machines, and that life itself as we know it wouldn't exist if this weren't the absolute capital-T Truth. And then wouldn't you observe homosexuals and make note that their preferences are completely inapposite with our underlying biological agenda. And then after observing that, wouldn't you form a conclusion that those guys were kinda weird? Yeah, of course you would.
And then you'd note that you've never seen a male hamster grunting it out while going anal on another male hamster. "Well yeah, of course I haven't. Why would males be attracted to males when our focking biological initiative is propagate the species?" you might say.
And those would not be unreasonable observations and notes. That's all I'm saying. Bummer for Pacquiao as he's probably losing out on a boatload of coin.
