Yeah by the big 12 adding WVU, that threw geography out the window as something to hold them back from inviting a school. Besides in this day and age geography doesn't matter that much anymore for power conference schools that have a lot of money and access to flights.

When it comes to conference expansion the biggest thing to me is expanding the conferences market.

What.

Pls explain how it would benefit the conference again if they are guaranteed a spot in the 8 team playoff

(This should be good)

Oklahoma and Oklahoma State to SEC.

Big 12 implodes

B1G takes Kansas, K State, Iowa State and West Virginia.

Pac 12 takes the Texas schools.

Essentially he did. Unless of course he can argue some benefit

You could argue that with twelve teams they wouldn't play round robin so you could end up with two undefeated teams in the championship game and the loser might still make the top 8.

Even if UCF and Louiville were added, theres no logical way to split divisions. You'd have the Big 12 West and Big 12 East, Split by the SEC

UL is not leaving the ACC for the Big 12, for multiple reasons.

Colorado State (9-1) just announced that they are moving forward with a brand new, on campus stadium. This is a program that has a lot of upside. Brand new stadium and a great coach makes them very attractive. Plus it gets the Big 12 back into the Colorado market that im sure the Big 12 would love to have back. 31,256 students makes them a nice attractive big school, plus Fort Collins is growing rapidly (152,000). I think Colorado St could be a very interesting choice.

The Big 12 will not go west unless it is for football only (BYU). WVU limits their expansion that way. If they didn't have WVU adding CSU, New Mexico and BYU plus maybe UNLV would be wise.

their shortlist should include Cincy, La Tech, Memphis, Boise State, Notre Dame (might as well throw up a hail mary or two), and Nevada

Other than ND, the Big 12 will never offer any of the schools

La Tech?

There is a 50/50 chance of that happening when the current tv deal is done.

PAC-12 takes
OU
OSU
Texas
TTU

SEC steals NC State and VT from ACC

ACC adds ND for football, WVU, Cincy, UCONN and convinces VCU to start football or maybe adds Memphis

Big 10 take Kansas and Virginia

That leaves TCU, Baylor, KSU, and ISU to choose their conference and will either join the AAC or MWC.

I think UCF needs to be in a major conference.

TCU and Baylor stay in BCS conferences

1. Big time teams
2. Big time money and facilities
3. Private school prestige and academics
4. Texas market

With BYU, it's got to be the church affiliation or something that keeps it out. They have a national name and pack their place.

I think the only things that might keep BYU football out of the Big 12 are their deal with ESPN for airing home games and their location. The religion thing (for the Big 12 anyway) would probably only be an issue with the other sports and odds are BYU wouldn't bring them in anyway simply due to travel costs and the no playing on Sundays mandate.

If we go to four 16 team power conferences they get screwed.

Cincy brings in the Ohio Market for TV and sets up a natural rivalry with West Virginia.
Memphis is dynamite get for basketball, though it adds little for football. The Memphis area is a pretty large TV market as well. Boise State has a built in rival for football with TCU and they are respected among casual fans. Nevada brings in the Vegas market and is probably one of the best possibilities out west not named BYU.

Some random school that's not in a major conference to the Big 12 is most likely.

Aside from that I wouldn't be surprised if the ACC and WVU kissed and made up and WVU left the Big 12 for the ACC. I know that there's a grant of rights, but there has to be an out. I can't see any logical reason that Texas would anchor itself to the rest of the Big 12 schools without an out. Their rights along with maybe Oklahoma are the only rights really worth anything. And it's not like Texas really needs them aside from having a strong preference to keep the conference together.
