I wonder how many people in this thread are aware of how little a role NBA head coaches play relative to other leagues. Over-coaching is more often a problem than under-coaching.

You can downplay the importance of an NBA coach but you certainly can't dismiss it.

The Lakers weren't going to win a title with Del Harris coaching Shaq and Kobe. The Bulls needed to push out Collins for Jackson to get over the hump. I doubt the Spurs win 4/5 titles in 14 years with a coach other than Pop. Hell, it took Riley to step in for SVG, a good coach, for the Heat to get past the Pistons.

Kidd will make an above average team worse in all likelihood because of his inexperience. We'll see what kind of assistants he hires, though.

They probably think the opposite with Deron Williams being his boy and all.

If he couldn't tell his wife what to do how is he going to tell a team what to do?

I guess the Nets wanted a coach who was doing the hitting and not receiving the choking.

He and Williams are really good friends which supposedly played a large factor in the hire. Idk how that's suppose to be a good thing for the team.

The respect will be there because the respect was already there when he was a player, especially a 40 year old player.

I'm just kind of having a hard time wrapping my head around this. Pretty much all I can get out right now is "wow!" I guess at least this will be interesting. He can't be any worse of a coach than Jordan is an owner. And I guess D-Will has a shite ton of pull.

The Lakers players better hope that this experiment flames out or else Kobe is gonna be THEIR coach in a couple of years!

That is unequivocally false. NBA is more of a coaches league than you believe it to be. Secondly, NBA coaches do a hell of a lot more than baseball managers do.

Stupid decision.

He should AT LEAST have as much coaching experience as Mark Jackson prior to being named head coach.

Everybody on this board sucks Pop off. Pop says it's a great hire and that Kidd will be fantastic. Not sure why all these bball amateur fools are hating on this hire.

i wonder how interested brian shaw was. only question i would have is if they went w/ kidd over him if he wanted it. otherwise i don't think it's as much as a disaster waiting to happen as people think.
