They were the most deserving of the mid-majors.

arguably (though i agree).

you could make a case for coastal. i can see why southern miss didn't get a spot. already 2 teams in mississippi hosting, plus lsu and ULL aren't that far off. of course, the committee didn't seem to care about keeping all of the host spots out of the same area this year, so i guess that doesn't matter.

did coastal put in a bid to host at their own stadium? or is their a minor league facility nearby?

ULL redoing the Tigue has paid off big time for them

so, you guys talk up ULL's high RPI as a reason they should host (which i agree they should host), and then want to keep out a team that has the 18th-ranked RPI in the country?

sorry, that's dumb.

UNC:

11th place in the ACC (13-17)
Missed the conference tournament
5-15 vs. RPI top-25

I mean it wouldn't make me mad if they made the postseason but it'd be nice to see them punished for being bad in their own conference and not making the tournament and allowing some other bubble team from a mid-major in.

No idea. They were punished for their conference mostly, if I had to guess. 7-8 vs top-50 isn't great either.

Going off memory, UNC has been pretty poor in most of their recent postseasons. Sans 2013, i seem to remember a lot of failure like being bounced from their own regional (possibly as a national seed?) idk someone fact check me. I could easily biased

eta:

Ok, yea, this is definitely biased. Im thinking back to 2012 when St Johns beat them in their regional. But besides that they actually havent been that bad in terms of being overrated

Classic me being biased

They usually put in a bid for the Myrtle Beach Single A team's field.

They use to share a stadium with the minor league Myrtle Beach Mermen (real life MB Pelicans)

i'm sure their rpi vs. the top 50 gets a little better. swept oklahoma state, beat south carolina and east carolina. all that tells me is that they played a very good schedule (i'd imagine it's gotta be inside the top 20 in the nation). also sucks for them that they traveled to ucla in a year that the bruins are shitty.

i want the best teams in the field. there's no way they're not one of the best 30-35 at-large teams in the country. i just don't think it would be nice in any way, shape, or form for a team that absolutely deserves to be in the field to be kept out because they played in THE BEST conference in america.

the sec invites 12 teams to its tournament. if the acc had the same format, unc would have made their conference tournament. that doesn't change their worth to me whatsoever.

Man, UNC this year is fairly eerily similar to LSU that year they were left out with a great RPI

and now the sec tournament field is larger (bc of conference expansion too i'm sure).

but my point being, if unc misses the tournament, i bet the acc would increase their tournament field to 12. i'm pretty sure they have 14 baseball members (syracuse doesn't have a team), so that would be just like the SEC's format.

speaking to tulane for a sec, they aren't even a "strong 2" anymore. i guess the only reason they might still be considered that is because they won the regular season title for the 6th rated conference. so that does count for something.

really hoping tulane avoids lsu. i think ULL, ole miss, florida state, or vandy would all be good spots for them.

I think they're still a 2. Also think Louisiana Tech is a 2 and Southeastern is a 3.

louisiana tech being a 2 really helps tulane IMO.

if tech is a 2, i'd imagine there's a good chance they'll get sent to lsu. which means tulane won't be.

Yeah, I'm kind of expecting La Tech in BR and either Tulane or USM in Lafayette. Southeastern will be the 3 in Lafayette or BR
