I thought it would have been wise to let EG go to Phoenix and toss money at Harden.

All of us said sign and trade eg would have been the ultimate rebuild and smart. High 1st round picks, don't have money to deal with, and you end up with a franchise player in Davis anyway.

9/10 competent gms would have done the s&t IMHO, only Demps would match.

Isn't that alone arguably worth more than a non-lottery draft pick?

You are making this up. Just about everyone wanted to match the deal. There were a few butthurt over Gordon's comments. Not a single person wanted to trade him for basketball reasons.

You are really wrong here. GMs dont let talented players just walk after their rookie deals.

Houston is 1 of the top cities for a rich black male to live. They have a lot going for it. Also, Morey wouldnt be trying to acquire assets if he had Anthony Davis. This is shown by what he has done since Harden has been there. If this same franchise was located in a better city, we could easily have let players walk and brought in free agents to team with AD.
The only big free agent the Rockets signed was Dwight Howard. Everyone else were players that any team was capable of signing.

But Morey always has assets to play with. One of the things he values the most is flexibility. He doesn't overpay and he doesn't get locked in. He always keeps the door open for any potential trades that come up. He got Josh Smith and Ty Lawson that way. He didn't overpay Chandler Parsons and instead signed Ariza for much cheaper. He let players walk and draft picks like Capela, Dekker, and Harrell stepped up.

He always maintains flexibility so that he can swing for the fences in free agency.

He's just always several moves ahead and planning for all possibilities. Morey, and other good GM's, have a plan and are thinking several moves down the road and how each move affects flexibility.

Dell Demps seems to me like he's flying by the seat if his pants and just throwing darts.

Thats a pretty big one. You dont see players of his caliber, signing with New Orleans. James Harden didnt test free agency, he just signed the extension.

This was his plan to acquire a superstar. They dont have these amazing assets currently.

Both teams were desperate to move these guys. He gave up a 1st for Lawson and he barely played for Houston.

Umm because he was going after Chris Bosh. He wouldve maxed Chandler if Bosh didnt lead him on.

Hes not several moves ahead. Demps built a better team than Houston. New Orleans just had the injury issues.

Harden wasn't going to be a free agent for another year. Houston took care of him and paid him early when they didn't have to. That's why he signed it.

Every player is on a team-friendly contract that can be moved. They have some picks. They can make room for players. They have flexibility.

The point is that because Morey always maintains flexibility, he is able to acquire players like this during a season while other teams can't. Lawson didn't work out, but Josh Smih was an It part of that WCF team.

That's not true. He had the choice to match the offer sheet and he didn't do it. That was a horrible contract they would have killed flexibility. He went and signed Ariza before the offer sheet was expired. It led people to believe he was going to sign Ariza AND Parsons. But Morey already decided he was not going to match Parsons with that contract.

lol come on dude.

The Rockets are built around Harden's strengths and D'Antoni's style. Bev, Ariza, Capela, Decker plus Anderson anr Gordon to pace the 2ND unit. Harden pulling the strings.

The Pelicans didnt complement AD the same way. They had some talent that could win games when healthy but didn't mesh that great together.
