This ought to go well.

quote:

NASCAR's national series tracks announced Thursday that they are asking fans to refrain from displaying the Confederate flag at races following the deadly attack at a South Carolina church two weeks ago.

The facilities vowed to have the most "welcoming environments in all of sports and entertainment."

The statement was signed by International Speedway Corp. and Speedway Motorsports Inc. — which own most of the tracks in the Sprint Cup Series, stretching from Florida to New York to California — as well as 30 specific tracks. It also includes independent tracks such as Tony Stewart's Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, Pocono Raceway and Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

"We are asking our fans and partners to join us in a renewed effort to create an all-inclusive, even more welcoming atmosphere for all who attend our events," the statement read. "This will include the request to refrain from displaying the Confederate flag at our facilities and NASCAR events."

The move follows NASCAR's statement last week reiterating that the flag is banned from official use at its events. And it comes ahead of Sunday's race at Daytona International Speedway — the first in the South since the mid-June attack that left nine black churchgoers dead in Charleston. The suspect had embraced Confederate symbols, including the battle flag.

So now triple the amount of people will fly them just to spite. Can't wait to see how they are going to take them all down.

Another 'brillant' move by NASCAR.

Continue to piss off one of the most loyal fan bases out there.

Idiots

Had they just not brought it up I'm betting there wouldve been a decrease in the number of flags on its own

NASCAR dug their own grave with this one

NASCAR is a business owned by one family--the France family. It's not like the NFL or MLB.

What the Frances are doing is smart in the sense that NASCAR is a national thing now and the money they stand to lose with that flag flying is greater than what they would gain by keeping it.

Now you conservatives who are pro-business should support their decision based on the finances alone.

Really? I am pretty sure Home Depot and Pepsi do not want to see their logos among confederate battle flags.

I've been a NASCAR fan all my life and I'm not gonna get in to what they should or shouldn't do as I am unsure myself but I will say two things:

1. This will be impossible to enforce
2. They've just provoked way more people into bringing the flag than would've if that had just not brought it up

@ Wiggum, thank you for showing how little you know about NASCAR or how it got to be where it is. It damn sure didn't get there by fringe pussy arse fans that get offended by a piece of cloth.

And btw, NASCAR or ISC is a publicly traded company.

Maybe they could encourage their fans to wave rainbow flags. All the fans lost could be replaced by progressives.

Good on NASCAR! Although they've technically had an organizational ban on those flags for awhile now

I think NASCAR may just be ingenious.
90% of their fans are southerners and many of them embrace their southern heritage. It's likely the owners of NASCAR also embrace southern heritage.

So they publicaly ask for fans not to fly it, knowing full well the # of flags will now double. A win win for them

Maybe, but maybe not. I'm not a NASCAR guy but this might be just enough to shame people not to fly that darn thing. Either way, I'm glad they're separating themselves from the confederate flag. I'm from as far south as you can get but I never bought the southern pride thing. Not sure what there is to be so proud of as it pertains to that flag.
