I've talked to you about my family...and even they don't own the flag. They couldn't have more southern pride if they tried, but they just....idk, live it. No symbols needed. In my experience(mostly with young folks), people who embrace that flag are racists. Probably doesn't help that I'm from Polk County though

Wiggum, thank you for showing how little you know about NASCAR or how it got to be where it is. It damn sure didn't get there by fringe pussy arse fans that get offended by a piece of cloth.

And btw, NASCAR or ISC is a publicly traded company.

No it is not. NASCAR is owned by one family. The Frances. It's like the WWE. Sure it's traded on the NYSE but it is run and owned by one family.

"The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) is a family owned and operated business venture that sanctions and governs multiple auto racing sports events. It was founded by Bill France, Sr. in 1948 and as of 2015, the CEO for the company is his grandson Brian France.[1"

So they're owned by the French. No wonder they surrendered so easily.

What's southern heritage...I'm from the south(Louisiana), family from Louisiana and Mississippi, have southern pride....I use my Louisiana state flag for that.

Do people up north need a flag for "northern heritage"...Do people out west need a flag for "Western Heritage"....You're fricking AMERICANS, American flag represents north, south, east, west, midwest, southeast, southwest, etc.

Ding ding ding...thank you. You don't need a flag to be proud of what part of the country you're from. Use your damn state flag. Hell I'm from Louisiana, don't give a two fricks about people from Alafrickingbama, South Carolina, North Carolina, so on.

My state comes first before a whole damn region. And I love how diverse, unique, etc Louisiana is. Cajun, Creole, black, white, redneck, etc. Have jazz, gospel, blues, zydeco, country, etc...don't need a damn flag for that.

Eh, it was bound to come up sooner or later in light of current events. NASCAR's anti-confederate flag stance is nothing new, basically just reiterated that stance and accelerated what they were planning to do anyways (RE: banning the flag from track property).

And I promise you the older folks running NASCAR know why that flag became popular during a certain time period. Hell when southern boy Dale Earnhardt Jr said it's time for it to go...sure his family told him about the popularity of that flag during the 60's...

The people that are saying "I think it is the right thing to do, it is time for it to come down/go". They know why it became so popular. Finally realizing that this is not the 60's....

Oh and I saw a pic of someone holding the confederate flag and Gadsden Flag outside the white house holding a sign saying "Impeach Obama" He was with other people holding signs...now why did this man bring a Confederate Flag.lmao. Why didn't he use an American Flag with the Gadsden Flag saying impeach Obama.

When mega stars like Jr and Gordon say the flag needs to go (with full support from their team owners and the NASCAR governing body, that's big time.

Hell, even the iconic Dale Earnhardt himself had no love for the thing.

Had no idea he felt that way.....Read some old NASCAR books...heard about some of the things the first black driver went through...wonder if those flags were popular at NASCAR events before he started driving. Sad.

Yeah he apparently was pretty proactive about making sure he didn't offend along those lines (and he was about as un-PC as it got )

Would love for minority racers to gain a greater foothold in NASCAR (and there are a few promising up and comers in the lower series), but there are a lot of barriers to entry other than race, too.

But hey, if Jimmy Stewart can wreck shop in motocross....

Don't have an issue with NASCAR doing this. They're a business and can make those rules for their racetracks. They're also trying to shed the image of being a sport for dumb rednecks.
