I can’t remember if I said this here or another board, but years after rival fans called Laettner, Redick, and Hurley gay even though they didn’t actually think the players were gay and were just using school yard insults to get in their heads, Duke may actually have a gay star.
However the climate has changed so much in the past decade, much less the early 90s, he’s only gotten those comments from one fan base this year (and had his best game of the year against them).
Also unlike Caleb Williams, McCain is one of the least controversial players I’ve ever seen in that he’s almost always got a positive attitude, great basketball IQ, not constantly complaining like Filipowski, and a high effort guy who gets lots of boards despite being relatively undersized.
