I believe the NFL is going to implode and go the way of boxing, but it has absolutely nothing to do with their greed.

The concussion problems and lawsuits. That's the end of the NFL. The youth will not play football (mostly due to parents) and will turn to Basketball, soccer, and baseball more. Only the poor and down trodden will take up football, even more than they already do. (similar to boxing) Eventually, when the rich schools and kids stop pouring money into youth and HS football, that's the end.

here is the difference in those sports and the NFL. It's a limited number of games so they all matter. Baseball is 162 games, not every one matters, same with basketball.

also with the popularity of fantasy football, it makes every game important to someone regardless of how shitty the teams are.

Everyone via college or pro football is exposed in some form. That's not the same with baseball and basketball imo.

footballs only demise will be concussions and lawsuits over player safety which turns the game into a 7 on 7 drill.

the allure of the Thursday night games still hasn't hit home for me yet.

even when the Saints played the Falcons this past season, it just seemed so weird.

even Monday Night football has kind of fallen off some. That use to be one of the premiere games of the week. But now it seems like the majority of the matchups aren't really all that appealing. The matchups are almost on par with the Thursday night games.

the most effort put into primetime games is on Sunday Night for whatever reason now.

its because the matchups are pre determined and generally focused to big media markets. its why you get a lot of cowboys, jets, giants, patriots, eagles, and skins games. What's worse is many of those teams sucked last year so you got what you got.

Thursday games are awful. It's a short week. Game plans can't be fully instituted, and guys barely practice before playing. I know the players absolutely hate them.

I don't really get what he's getting at. NFL is greedy and it will come back to bite them? Why exactly?
Whether you agree or not, the premise is quite simple, especially using the Who Wants to be a Millionairre analogy.

This is football, not a stupid game show.
We're kidding ourselves and being very naive to think there is absolutely no breaking point and it is simply untouchable and will just continue to grow and grow and grow.

implosion is vastly overstated but i think this constant growth slows down quickly in a few years and you might even see some declines in revenue 10 years from now.
I agree with this

oh yeah, I get that. It really is hard to hit a homerun with these matchups. The schedules get released in what, April?

I think they've done alright with flexing some games to Sunday Night. Obviously you aren't going to get it right every time though.

see his point. I think the NFL is getting ridiculous with these games on Thursday and Saturday. As a consumer I enjoy it, but with a game like football it's hard as hell on the players to not have as set of a schedule every week as possible. I know Thursday games won't go away, but honestly, I wouldn't mind it going back to just Sunday and Monday.

I always forgot the games are even on Thursdays and by the time I remember the game is usually almost over.

The NFL (and Roger Goodell) need to realize that the public is beginning to realize that they're full of shite and they need to slow their roll.

You're not pussifying the game because you are concerned about safety. You got busted for not giving a shite about your former employees and now you need to CYA.

There is no "public mandate" for an 18-game schedule or more Thursday night games. This is all about lining YOUR pockets, so just freaking be honest about it.

They are so condescending and paternalistic. They've reached the point where they think they know better, and they can just ignore public opinion and tell people that "this is what you really want."

They have not reached the tipping point yet, but when they do, you have to think that they will be smart enough to back off and avoid the implosion.

I could almost see this, if I had kids, I wouldn't allow them to play football.

To me it's kinda like Coke. They thought we needed New Coke. They didn't ask us if we wanted it. We didn't want it. We complained. We got our Coke back.

Roger Goodell will likely one day realize that he needs to back off and start listening to somebody other than the owners.

Middle class white kids will stop playing football. What percentage of the NFL do they make up?

As long as there is an economic benefit to playing football, it will not end.

And the rich schools and kids won't stop pouring money into football. They'll just bring the poor kids to their schools to play it for them. We've already seen that.

I just think the thought of a bubble or a burst in markets is the new hot topic to throw out for everything. Everything today is a bubble that will burst one day and bring us back down to cave men. O

Out of all our friends with kids, only 1 of them will "probably" let his kids play football- and he's blue collar/lower class.

Sweet. Its gonna make it a lot easier for my unathletic bloodline to make it to the NFL if all the other parents stop their kids from playing football
