Mediocre at best...dumb hire.

Meh. It's a solid hire. And who would they bring in that's better?

It's rumored that they're bringing in former Cal HC Jeff Tedford as OC and Marinelli as DC. Tedford's interesting because it's his first pro stop but he's known for developing his QBs. Marinelli's a solid DC hire.

Jason La Canfora ?@JasonLaCanfora 3m

Look for Lovie Smith to bring Jeff Tedford as his offensive coordinator and Leslie Frazier as his defensive coordinator

so which is it, mayne?

La Canfora says Frazier but Schefter says it Rod Marinelli for DC.

Great hire, I was hoping he wouldn't end up in the division.

Really good hire by the Bucs.

All they need is a MLB and some more depth on the DL and they'll be an elite D

ESPN NFC North blogger Pat Yasinskas is "hearing" the Bucs will hire Rod Marinelli as defensive coordinator. Lovie Smith would be tabbing longtime pal Marinelli over Leslie Frazier, who could still be brought on in a position coach/"assistant head coach" role. The hangup with Marinelli was the fact that he coached Dallas' defensive line in 2013, and was still under contract with the Cowboys in 2014. Per NFL rules, position coaches must be formally released by their teams to accept anything below a head-coaching job. So Jerry Jones must've agreed to let Marinelli go.

Some rumblings around the league former Bears GM Jerry Angelo - a former Buc exec as well - might be a part of Team Lovie in Tampa

Interesting that when Jerry Angelo hired Lovie his first two choices turned him down. Nick Saban (LSU fans remember that press conference) & Jeff Tedford was the 2nd.

Interesting to see if they move him to the mike.

I don't doubt he could do it, but really, he's perfectly suited to play the will in a Tampa 2 scheme, and the will really is just as important as the mike.

The NFC South has four excellent coaches.

Funny how the NFC South and West are the two best and toughest in the conference, but the North and East get all the hype.
