Fats Domino slept in Jamarcus Russell's apartment. That's normal. A lot of players from the team were from the New Orleans area.
That made Russell a victim?
To compare the 2 situations is asinine.

I'll bet bet people who lost everything they own or loved ones get sick to their stomachs when they hear Tulane football players whine about their disappointing season.

Maybe so. But Tulane talking about it is nothing compared to Les Miles talking about it.

That doesn't mean Russell wasn't affected though. Also somebody like Skyler Green or Rahim Alem was probably more affected than Lester Ricard even though they were in BR the whole time.

Holy crap I can't wait for this anniversary to pass so people will stop arguing over who was affected worse by the storm and downplaying how it affected different people.

It was a tragic time for everyone, there is no need to compare victims.

Yeah, opening up your home and city to people in need is the exact same thing that the student athletes at uno and tulane had to deal with and are STILL dealing with ...

So multiple kids who were from SELa on LSU's team and lost everything isn't still dealing with that just because they happened to be attended LSU when it happened? And the coach that likely supported them/counseled them through that can't talk about it?

Sound logic you have there.

Your New Orleans colored glasses are affecting your view. Being upset that LSU was affected is the most New Orleans thing ever.

You're right. New Orleans is the only city ever.

Jim Wilson, a real estate developer and former Tulane letterman,3 sent the team to a mall and paid for every player to be outfitted with T-shirts, underwear, dress shirts and shoes, and khakis.

Glad the NCAA didn't try to pull some bullshite and bring penalties for that.

I think this is more of a Tulane wanting to whine about LSU thing. And ironically the article points out how Tulane only had 6 players from Orleans and Jefferson parish at the time which is less than LSU had.

The LB was from St Stan, does that count? Kind of my point.

Here's an ESPN article about it with some Scelfo quotes. Looks like Lester Ricard is not a Scelfo fan.

quote:

Ricard: It wasn't the coaches' fault. They weren't in their comfort zone. Neither were we. A lot of guys felt, 'How much do these coaches really care what's going on?' Maybe it was fictional and maybe it was fact. It was tough. Because, for instance, I'll ask you a question. Scelfo probably said if he had to do it over again, he wouldn't have played that season. Am I right or wrong?
So many other guys knew that. That makes us feel like crap. You know what I mean? We knew that. We knew that he felt that way. There's no such thing, no matter what the circumstances, that you don't play that season. ... To say we shouldn't have done it? That goes against all my moral values. That goes against the dignity and integrity of who I am as a person.

So I'm reading this oral history about the Saints during Katrina from SI and Lester Ricard wouldn't think too much of Joe Horn either.
quote:

Horn: The people of San Antonio treated us really well. But the facility that most NFL teams work on, we had to adjust. We were in a locker room at the Astrodome that was old. The accommodations weren’t what we were used to. The practice facility we were at wasn’t what we needed to prepare ourselves to win football games. They were preparing parades with trombones playing while we were trying to do walk-throughs in a parking lot. It was horrific. The New Orleans Saints season should have been canceled.

quote:

Loomis: I thought the conditions were awesome for us. We spent the first 30 days in a hotel. It was makeshift, there’s no question about it, but I didn’t think it was hardship. We need to keep a perspective about what hardship is.
