if you're referring to Hollinger, that guy who never coached a game was completely right about Gay, and saved the team money.

They're definitely not going to hire a old school coach like Sloan.
yeah, I don't see it either, but it's what they need to get them over the hump. Sloan's system would be perfect for them. But I'm just pissing in the wind.

I don't think it has anything to do with what Hollins's salary requests.

I think they are basically going to use Hollinger as their Billy Beane and see if that works.

I follow the Grizz and have been for several years. i had season tix when they were absolutely miserable and as a western conference finalist. i appreciate what Lionel Hollins did as a coach, but it was time to part ways.

The way he played the media the past few weeks was a joke. Like another poster said, he would claim he wanted to be back and then rip the front office for various things.

Also new ownership is a major issue here as well.

Firing Karl was understandable. This wasn't. The owners are so cheap (Gay trade for crap, now this).

The new owners want their guy... I dont see what the big deal is... When a new boss comes along, you dont blast him in a public forum (Hell, dont blast him privately) or your arse wont be working for that organization for very long.

It's crazy to me that people would still question the Gay trade.

I think Hollins not playing Ed Davis after the trade was the final frick you to the front office.

They could have gotten more for him is all I'm saying. Also, he would have helped more against the Spurs then Prince did.

what?

Saving money while still being just as good is now considered being cheap?

if you compare his production to Prince, sure.

If you compare the totality of the team with him vs without him they were just as good, if not better without him.

Gay has 2 years at almost 20 million a year on his contract and he's been getting worse every year since his shoulder injury. Don't know why you would think he would have a lot of trade value.

They aren't going to use that money for anything. I hated when the Hornets traded Baron Davis (who still had good years left in him) for Speedy Claxton and crap without at least getting a decent draft pick and that is just what Memphis did.

Jorger was allegedly the brains behind Hollins. Management thought Hollins was overrated.

Well I'd bet money they won't make the WCF next year Jorger.

i think you're overstating how important coaches are, by a good bit.

They won't be making the WCF next year, but not because of Hollins being some oracle. Russell Westbrook will be healthy next season. And Houston or Dallas could have Dwight Howard.

Sounds very familiar. Similar to the situation with Lawrence Frank in New Jersey. Maybe it turns out better for the Grizzlies. There was an obvious disconnect between Hollins and management.
