It's about an even playing field.
You think not having to pay to go to school isn't a competitive advantage?
This issue really is a microcosm of what's wrong with public education in LA in general. People are scratching to get out of the public school system any way they can. When that happens the publics scream "unfair" but never look at why people are so quick to jump ship.
This issue doesn't really happen in states with decent public schools. There, the publics dominate sports.
Privates dominate the minor sports too and no honestly believes they seek out talent and bring it in. Success in athletics comes when you have a dedicated adminstration, athletic department, parent base, and community. All things lacking in a lot of public schools.

It's a sin and a shame that with schools here in metro New Orleans that have a ton of on-field talent, you get 40 people out to a game.

I agree that it would get boring playing the same teams all the time. One of the reasons I am against it. I went to a public school and loved playing all different kinds of teams from all over.

I was told that was just procedure and they would vote on a new format Friday, 6 classifications.
Has that been canned?
Has that been canned?

It's also a shame that there is so much talent walking the halls of a lot of public schools that just never even steps on the field for some reason. Grades, no ride home after practice, and whatever else is caused by a lack of supportive parents.

Riverside? Lafayette Christian? Curtis softball? New Living Word?
Boys Basketball can be picked apart all day long with Dynasty's and you forgot the biggest one thats quasi private.. Southern Lab but maybe its just in the water up there because Scotlandville has been dominating recently. Zwolle has championships all over the place in Class B..
Girls Softball is riddled with dynasty's from the public sector.

Private schools need to tell the LHSAA to piss off.

Public schools provide ride homes for everything, band everything!

Not in St Landry Parish they don't. When Opelousas High was good at football, it was because Larry Dauterieve recruited the hallways of the school and took away the most common excuse that most kids had for not playing by having a coach drive a bus after practice.
He left, that stopped, and they've been pretty much shite since.
Then they redrew the zones in the parish and started sending kids from Opelousas to Port Barre. Those kids don't play at Port Barre because there is no one to bring them back to Opelousas after practice. And Port Barre has gone downhill as well.
North Central and Northwest have never been good at football for similar reasons, can't recruit hallways.

Yeah, I just saw one of the biggest public schools in the state playing basketball. Nobody can convince me that they don't have more talent at the school than that. Just aren't being pushed/developed.

What? The privates get around this using scholarships.

Which ones are giving athletic scholarships?

So it's an unfair advantage trying to provide the same free tuition?

I'd put even money someone lost a state championship in high school to a dominate private school???

No, but when you can recruit the best players and offer only them scholarships, it becomes one. Add in that they have no district, and it's clearly an advantage.

Lost 1
Won 2
And my public school education taught me the difference between dominate and dominant.

Which schools are offering athletic scholarships? It's against the LHSAA guidelines, so they should be turned in. If the LHSAA is not enforcing the rules in its rulebook, the public schools should be upset with the LHSAA.
