So the divisions are public v. private and the other is public v. public? 5a, 4a doesn’t exist anymore?

A lot of the public schools got put in Select divisions. It had to do with them being magnet/charter schools, etc.

The 5A, 4A, still exists for districts. Depending on the cutoff for enrollment determined the division for the playoffs.

For example, Salmen High Schools was 4A but because of their enrollment, the are in Division I.

Sumner going back to Bogalusa (where they had to dodge bullets) if they win round one? Not going to happen.

A lot of publics got reclassified as select because they have a magnet program. Also, all charters are now select vs some being select and some being non-select based on their admission policies.

Jefferson Parish and EBR Parish public schools are big examples of the switch. East Jefferson, Riverdale, Grace King, Bonnabel are all Select now. Same with Woodlawn, Tara, Glen Oaks, Istruma.

There are now 33 or 34 teams in each Select division with the top 24 making the playoffs (top 8 get byes) and between 39 and 43 teams in each non-select division with the top 28 making the playoffs (top 4 get byes).

Decreases the number of brackets from 9 to 8 and increases the select bracket from 4 weeks to 5.

When was the last time West Monroe was a double digit seed? I don't follow them that close, just seems odd to me. Makes for an interesting possible matchup with Zachary

Well last year it was round 2…

Can’t possibly be worse than last years though

Even Jerry Arledge will tell you WM isn’t who they used to be

I’m sure it will be the refs fault if they lose at Z. 175 miles is quite a distance for your daddy to live from you.

Okay, so you’re telling me Acadiana, Lafayette, and Carencro high are considered “magnet” schools? Having an academy is nowhere near the same as being a magnet school.

Supposedly there are enough votes to get it back the way it used to be come January. Combined.

The non select is an absolute joke compared to the select.

Select D1 is the best bracket since the split

The crazy part when looking at it was how many schools are actually basically true publics in the select bracket while schools like west Monroe are in non select.

At least it was done to piss people off enough to get rid of the split so has an end goal but still.

If you're select at least be comfortable in the knowledge that that's the real state title

They have open enrollment. Why wouldn’t they be considered magnet?

Several times the last 10 years. This year was a bit of bad luck. Had Catholic and Curtis on the schedule. Both dropped WM. Couldn’t fill with quality teams really. Played an abysmal school from Tennessee that went winless. Then the hurricane forced a cancellation with a Florida school. District opponent was winless. Sterlington won state last year and won 5 games this year.

All ends with a double digit seed and a possible road trip to Zachary round 2.

How did St. Amant get into the playoffs with a 4-6 record ? I don’t follow Louisiana HS football much.
