the person in charge who assigns the games

So you're telling me that assignment secretaries are calling up coaches and ADs and discussing the work situations of their officials and then these coaches and ADs are sharing that information with you?

That seems ethical all the way around.

I can tell you that if I caught wind that our assigner was doing that sort of thing it would become my mission to see that he was replaced.

what i mean is the guys whose real job doesnt pay shite and only ref for exta income are usually the bad officials and bitch the most

What you might not be considering is that this is a necessary evil. Officials naturally want to referee more competitive games. The guys who don't need the money are going to turn in the crappy games where you have 40 fouls in a game and no one can dribble.

You need guys who need money to officiate these games

Coaches and Officials generally develop a rapport where they know each other pretty well.

it happens

the guy in charge is very tight with coaches, they talk whether it be 1 on 1 or in tourney hospitality rooms

usually the assigning sec has been reffing for years and thinks he close with the coaches therefore opening up to them

just for a point of reference, the guy who is in charge of all college baseball non conference games(Ray Miller) is the worst umpire in the state and he's shady

Except that's not what he said.

I have a rapport with several coaches, but I doubt any of them know what I do for a living.

Well, like I said, God help our assigner if I ever find out that he is sharing our personal info with ADs and coaches like that.

None of that is any of their business.

His life would become very unpleasant. It's bad enough as it is, just by the nature of the job, but he really doesn't want to go there.

I'm not going to read through all 15 pages but $31 to work a varsity game is ridiculous. When you figure in travel time and getting there around the start of the JV game you are looking at about 4 to 5 hours to ref what I deem the hardest of all sports to officiate.

I have been officiating Varsity level football and basketball for 8 years (some sm college bball) and we make $55 in basketball and $50-$62 in football depending on conference. For the meetings and camps we are required to attend each year and maintaining descent looking uniforms and new shoes each year there is no way in hell 30 bucks is worth your time.

Good luck to the LHSAA officials on getting the raise that you deserve. I would be after a hell of a lot larger raise than $8 though

I guess the situation is very fluid.
We had officials last night for the BM v. Riverside game in the arena. Add to THAT the poor bastards likely had to pay to park in order to officiate.

The Times-Picayune reported, this morning, that only the Hammond organization was going to strike tonight. I'm sure much of that information was compiled yesterday and last night to meet deadline last night. It said it would cause some problems and games were being moved from the Northshore to greater New Orleans.

likewise, I cannot sift through all 14 pages. I am a soccer official and have been following the story with some interest. To my knowledge, the executive board just gave the principals a big stack of proposals and asked them to vote. They did not state a case for or against the proposals and when the principals saw the pay raise proposal they simply voted against it. I don't think they are against the officials, they just saw their budgets being pulled at from every direction.
In soccer, we get $50 (Center) and $35 (AR) per game plus a $5 travel allowence (parish wide). The raise they were proposing for us would have increased the officials fee by a 1/3 per game. The travel allowence was getting a major boost.

Riverside whipped us badly in JV. BM was only down 6 at one point in the last minute of varsity, but having to foul, and not being able to sink our own free throws....I think it ended with the Rebels beating the Crusaders by 9, I want to say.

Riverside has some players with size and speed. Brother Martin's guys aren't as tall or as big.

I know Riverside has been without a couple of their starters as well..... Sounds like it was a good game!

According to the couple of principals I have talked too, the games may be made up next week. They don't think all of them will be able to be made up however

Every game that has playoff implications will absolutely be made up.
