That article is from a few days ago, when a refused raise raised the possibility of a work stoppage. According to a friend of mine who is a LHSAA official, officials in districts in Baton Rouge, Monroe, and Shreveport have already voted for the stoppage.

New Orleans and Thibodaux have yet to vote.

This has to do with a payraise the officials didn't get this year. Louisiana is currently 50th in how much they pay basketball officials.

Some guys will continue working, of course, but if the stoppage goes through, it looks like a lot of games will be canceled.

That would be a travesty for the kids.

They maybe could try to spread out the games throughout the week instead of just tuesday and fridays. Then the same refs could work every night during the week and make good money.

Yea I don't think it'll get serious enough for things to get cancelled.

If this goes into effect immediately, will this affect my middle school team? We use BR Lhsaa officials, though the Lhsaa has no sanctioning over middle school athletics

ETA, we have a game tomorrow night

No. I don't think they get paid through the LHSAA. I think your league pays them.

I have a junior high team too, and I don't think we'll be affected.

Yeah we actually pay our officials cash out of the door money

But they do wear their LHSAA patches to the game. I guess you are right though as that side money wouldn't have anything to do with their dispute with the LHSAA

And their performance is probably close to the worst in the nation.

Just saying.

What does it take to be a highschool basketball official? Can't they just temporary replacements?
