7 or even six divisions are still way too many for Louisiana.

I've got the fever, can't wait to get out to Tad Gormley tonight.

If they keep the stupid split, you need 6 or 7 to have level playing fields. Privates should have no more than 3. Public could be regrouped to 4 but the ones at the lower end enrollment wise in each class will have a tough time.

be honest. the LHSAA had Rummel/Curtis in mind when they asked the smaller schools to choose to play up to the D1 bracket

J.T. had Rummel/Curtis on his mind when he chose to. Let's face it. One and a half titles in a row for Rummel has people questioning Curtis being the preeminent powerhouse in our area. Since their 2012 national championship, Curtis won last year, but they've slipped a bit behind Rummel in the pecking order, having a little to do with two losses to St. Aug (when was the last Curtis loss to a team with a losing record?)

Sure it will damage their program if they lose to Rummel, but the alternative of staying in the U-High division would have been worse. it would have been another chance to move up spurned, just like every two years between 1991 and 2004.

J.T. has worked hard over the years to go from Crescent City, Ridgewood, and Ecole level, to good, to great, to state champs, to national champs, but once you get to the top you usually like to stay there.

and it isn't about the trophy. J.T. has 26 of them. it's about respect

If JC wins then is JT gonna have the resume to proclaim himself king of Louisiana football?

I posted in this thread about U High dominating their division, John Curtis and Rummel aren't in their division.

Notre Dame couldn't stay with them.

there are other teams with great players other than the raiders and JC. Like West Monroe, Acadiana Destrehan and Zackary .. why not a little talk about these fine schools.

The split was terrible for 4a and 5a. You now have all of the privates thinking they are much better than publics when that was far from the case in the higher classifications.

bc especially with Byrd and Ponchatoula gone, 5A nonselect is the weaker championship this year

let's talk about Warren Easton making the 4A semifinals... now that's a talented team

Would still take WM, Acadiana, and Destrehan over select.

If Byrd and ponchatoula are out by the quarterfinals, wouldn't that mean that 5-A is pretty tough? Those are two great teams, one of which has beaten one of the division 1 finalists. And they didn't make it past the second round. I'm not so sure Curtis or Jesuit make it to the finals in 5-A.

Didn't just forfeit. They were knocked out by 2 of the best programs in the state. Just like Curtis is in the Dome in what some would call a rebuilding year, Acadiana and WM are 1 game away. WM isn't rebuilding, they just lost their QB and MLB before the season started. They're splitting time with a sophomore and freshman at QB. Acadiana was searching for a fit at QB and found one late in the year. Both teams have great coaching staffs that have done fantastic jobs this year. With the 4 left, any are capable of winning it all. I'd say 5A is far from weak.

5a weaker because a great team WM knocked Byrd off. Most folks have not given West Monroe much of a chance because they lost two early games after losing their QB.. They may lose to DHS but don't be shocked if they win and go to the dome with a freshman and soph QB. BTW they are loaded with talent for the next two years. Never rule out the Rebels.

Then why did they kick ECA and JC out of 4a and 5a in 05?

The plan, as I was told, was to bankrupt ECA. That they were living off of playing large schools with huge gates. So they wanted to stick them with small schools, that aren't even open now, to have small crowds/shut their doors. Also, they thought it would be less attractive to recruits to play in those small games instead of 5A. It hasn't worked like they planned, but it did in some form or fashion. They are a shell of what they were in the 90's/early 2000's.

Personally, I think it has more to do with Byrd being able to openly recruit as well as the emergence of Calvary.
