okay... what's the point of the 75 student minimum for new schools joining the LHSAA? they have that, and then they want to talk about class C is losing members and should be combined with class B?

Makes no sense

Class 5A baseball
A proposal for Class 5A only would allow baseball teams to play a weekend best-of-three games series for the regional and quarterfinal rounds.

The four winners would
advance on to a single-elimination state tournament. This proposal was placed on the agenda by several principals, including several from the Baton Rouge and New Orleans areas.

Great idea, IMO. I think some 5A schools have been wanting this for a while now.

My predictions:

The South Beau all split will be voted off the table and summarily rejected. It will be reworked and proposed again this summer where it will again be voted down. It is way too divisive to get majority approval.

The Winnfield proposal (football only split) will be tabled. It will also be reworked and voted on this summer. I think this proposal will pass after it has been reworked and will be implemented for the 2015-2016 season. This will give the Selects ample time to decide if they are going to leave the LHSAA and execute a strategy if they do leave.

The reason for not passing either now? Too many questions, not enough answers. The proposals as written have WAY too many holes and potential fallout in them to be approved. The safety issues alone are off the charts. UHIGH (300 total student) in the same playoff bracket as Rummel (1000 boys)?

The issues will continue to be researched and both sides will work diligently to get their ducks in a row for the Summer 2013 meeting.

I also predict Kenny Henderson will be the target of a palace coup in the coming months that will culminate at the Summer 2013 meeting. There are some powerful people that are very angry at the way the LHSAA is handling its business. The NORLA bias has made Henderson some key enemies and now he is presiding over the proceedings that could damage the LHSAA itself. I could be wrong but I dont see how he can possibly survive the political damage he has caused to the Association and to himself.

The only thing I can think of is that they don't want any Findlay Prep type schools popping up and trying to play LHSAA schools. Or schools like the football one in Maryland started by the guy from Delaware.

They want the schools to at least maintain a facade of being there for more than just sports.

exactly, which is also the reason for the two year probation and the physical audit of the school

no school in a strip mall winning a state title and then shutting down

A coup on Kenny Henderson is long overdue. I hope the predictions of nothing happening are true. It's bad enough we got gerrymandered into the same district as PBS, and still saddled with ECA and Curtis. This is such a cluster, I'm glad I've only got one more year to deal with the LHSAA.

I got word a split is on the way. What you guys hearing? My source is an AD and Principal at 2 different schools. I still don't believe it though. Private Schools are going to walk if this happens.

when you have pussy public school principals and a herd mentality, no one could have avoided a split...

these principals aren't taking their whole community's opinion into consideration and only voting for what they selfishly think the LHSAA should be

The Legislature is going to get involved in this before it is over with. Then the shite is really going to hit the fan

What I am hearing is a split is coming for football only. The private schools will not leave the LHSAA because they will be leaving all their districts over 1 sport. All their other sports can still compete for their usual state titles. The football teams districts will remain in place for regular season play. Also not every select school is a private school. Some select non- private schools are not breaking from the LHSAA. The select schools don't like the separate football playoffs but there isn't much they can do. They make up only 30% of the LHSAA. If 20-25% of the schools want to completely leave the LHSAA over separate playoffs in 1 sport then let them go. My guess is they will stay.
