I think it's great that he doesn't participate. I mean, it's LeBron James. He's extremely talented and is a HUGE name. He could go up there and just do a "simple" (Simple for NBA players) tomahawk slam and would generate an insane amount of ooh's and aah's. It would take an unbelievable amount of luck to unseat James from a dunk contest 1st place finish.

What does he have to gain by participating? ... Nothing.

What does he have to lose? .... Something.

Just like Han said in Tokyo Drift.
"If you're gonna compete, it has to be for something important."

Everyone is focusing on their opinion of dunk video but no one can deny that its pretty douchey move on his part. He normally comes off as a cool dude in interviews but some of the things he does just makes you

Someone asked Wade today how LeBron would do in the dunk contest. LeBron cut in and answered for Wade: "I'd win."

If LeBron doesn't want to participate at this stage in his career, I'm not going to rake him over the coals for it...but, if he is going to put stuff like this out there he should put up or shut up.

He doesn't want to compete. He just wants to put the idea out there... that if he did, he'd win.

The illusion is greater than the reality.

You have to keep in mind the audience that he is appealing to! That's very important.

Why did you make this subject of the post as though Lebron is actually going to read it?

All of the All Star games/ Pro bowls are a farse.
Noone cares.

Lebron NOT participating is a bigger story than anything that will happen during the whole event.

No MLB decides homefield advantage. Actual strategies take place.
