exactly.. what took lebron so long to pass him up? he hasn't been playing for so many years.

lebron as great as he is, does not have the driving force to win that jordan has.

even in the playoffs this year you could tell the heat acted like it wasn't much of a big deal all series long.. i would watch their interviews after they lost.. and they really didn't seem to want it all that bad..

LeBron was obsessively criticized for going to Miami in order to win championships, and 4 Finals appearances and 2 titles later, people criticize him for not having the drive to win?

I will never understand the logic of the LeBron critics.

Did you watch the finals? I think Jordan is better than LeBron, but there was nothing more that LeBron could have done. Even Jordan couldn't salvage that crap of a team.

LeBron averaged:
38.0mpg
57.1/51.9/79.3

28.2ppg
7.8rpg
4.0apg
3.8tov
0.4bpg
2.0spg

and they still got their arse handed in 3/5 games (I don't consider game 1 to be an arse kicking as it was close up til LeBron left).

I disagree, but it's damn near impossible to compare the league today to the league Jordan dominated. Too many variables have changed.

Agree.

Game 1 was utterly deceiving, and I think it may have given MIA a false sense of security that proved to be the harbinger of their undoing.

The only thing the media seemed to focus on after game 1 was LeBron's cramps. And make no mistake, it was a big story. But that fiasco overshadowed the fact that SA was ahead (yes, in a close game) when LeBron went out, and also the fact that the Spurs caught absolute fire in the 4th quarter of that game (14/16 FGs, iirc).

Folks were surprised by the lights out shooting SA came out with in game 3 in MIA, but the end of game 1 was a preview of that, IMO.

Sorry for rambling

Jordan has been retired for a decade or some shite and was America's favorite "athlete" for that long?

These must be the people still voting for yao ming to start in the ASG.

How much did LeBron pay for this survey? Seems like it would be pricey

Bill Simmons makes a good point when he says that America has this odd obsession with excusing everything Michael Jordan has ever done and overlooking the fact that he's a gigantic a-hole and borderline sociopath.

Just about everybody admits that, still doesnt exclude the fact that hes the GOAT nba player

Going to a certain team in hopes of winning a ring isnt the only thing that makes up "driving force to win"

For a man who hasn't played basketball in over a decade, I'd say it's about damn time. But MJ is still GOAT!

So he averaged his season numbers roughly, and yes they are great numbers no doubt about it. But in the finals when hes the only hope they have to win, I would like to have seen a little increase in those stats, or atleast attempt to.

MJ is still the 2nd post popular athlete in America according to this poll and he retired 11 fricking years ago. Am I not the only one blown away by that, especially given some of the athletes we have had in that time span.

Are we going to be able to say the same thing about LeBron 11 years after he retires?

Pretty much this.

2,241 is an excellent sample size. It will almost certainly tell us about the distribution of most popular athletes.

When we are talking in GOAT terms, thats not that ridiculous of a statement, especially when you look at MJs stats increase in the finals....

The Spurs would have loved to see LeBron do more by himself. It would have played right into their hands. The Heat was not going to fall into that trap.
