The Lakers are compiling a long of coaching candidates they'd like to consider in their search. Among the candidates the Lakers will look at are Luke Walton, Kevin Ollie, Jay Wright, Roy Williams, Tom Izzo, John Calipari, Ettore Messina, Jeff Van Gundy and David Blatt, sources told Shelburne. According to ESPN's Brian Windhorst, Jeff Hornacek is also expected to be on the Lakers' list.

I figure the main candidates are Walton, Ollie (if he can pull Westbrook), and Messina.

I think some of the hires this summer are specifically based on getting the top free agents. That's why Brooks got so much money in Washington.

The Lakers may want to wait until Durant signs his contact. If he stays in OKC, don't go for Ollie. If Durant signs with another team, Ollie is a very appealing candidate for the rebuild b/c he can probably bring Westbrook home the following year.

I want Blatt to be hired somewhere in the East where he can wreck Lebron's shop.

Walton and Messina would be my top choices, but Ollie could be great with this young roster if they can't get either

Lakers aren't hiring Blatt. They have already struck out with the Cav retread coaches a few times

That doesn't sound too realistic (not in the near future at least).

Lol do you even know the what the W/L record for LBJ v Eastern Conference coaches in the East? It's pretty one sided, Blatt wouldn't change that.

Yea I'm sure the Lakers are real interested in 65 year old Roy Williams, who has never coached in the NBA, to oversee their rebuild.

This is more likely to be a declining trend. You're starting to see some former players along with assistants take jobs these days.

Please Luke Walton. Young team needs a young but playoff experienced coach who has led a somewhat "veteran-laden" team for GSW when Kerr was out. Plus he has laker ties and knows what it means to be a Laker in the glory days, how it should be.

Why would Walton go to LA right now? He can probably have a shot at a more talented roster sooner than later.

I think Ollie might be the call, as he has NBA experience also.

Because most leagues are filled with group think guys. If you hire George Karl you can always say its because of his track record. But guys like Steve Clifford are changing that narrative.

His track record isn't that good. NBA organizations make some idiotic hires and I believe a lot of it has to do with control.
