The cutoff for Tx 6A teams is about 2200. A handful are around 4k. And a few, Allen and the Plano schools are at nearly 6k.

That's insane. How in the hell do sports work at schools that massive?

LA 5A is 1200 and up
Typically see schools with 1300 to 1600 kids. LA doesn't build mega HS complexes like Texas does

My kids HS building from end of hall to end of hall across the front of the school is 3/8 of a mile

Watched most of the game. Katy's offensive line was huge. Ceder Hill simply had better athletes, especially at QB and WR.

Yeah but what you have to remember, is that these large sports complexes are built for the entire ISD (independent school district). So in most cases the complexes are shared by 6-10 schools. We don't split schools by parishes here like in La. Think of it like a bunch of Zachary/Central/EBR 'districts'. Katy ISD has Katy, Morton Ranch, Taylor-Katy, Cinco Ranch, Seven Lakes, and Thompkins (new this year).

For example, the Houston metro has 10-15 ISD's.

i'm referring to the individual schools in TX that have 4-6k enrollments, double what anyone in Louisiana has... it'd be like Jefferson Parish still having just East Jefferson and West Jefferson

Yeah, I was really answering about the large sports complexes here.

You should see the high schools they are building here in Katy. I want to say $8-10 mil? was what Katy ISD spent to build Thompkins. It's huge and has indoor pools and other stuff. It's a bit intimidating to be inside there. But they do keep the classroom ratios very good and Katy is top 2 in all public schools in Houston area.

We moved from BR and was sending our daughter to Catholic elem school. The schools here are easily as good as the privates in most of La and no tuition. However, I pay over $3k a year of my property taxes to Katy ISD.

Seven Lakes was reportedly 76 million from what I read and Thompkins has a similar layout. Seven Lakes was over 4,000+ students before Tompkins. By the way, Katy barely makes the cut for 6A at right around 2,500 students.

Yeah that's it. It was $80mil not 8. Katy HS purposely moves their district lines around to keep their size the same. They have made this clear many times.

Same reason they won't annex 'new Katy' (south of I-10) into Katy proper.

ETA- just looked it up, Thompkins High School cost $108 mil

7 lakes outgrew the high school 5 years after they built it

The growth here is insane. That's why I bit the bullet and voted the bond in. We need the schools.

There is some beyond questionable zoning like the neighbourhood between Taylor and Cinco that is zoned to Katy high. Haha, Katy football draws a lot of
people in, but the academics at 7, Cinco, and I presume Thompkins is the real draw to the area. They build houses in 2 1/2 months and whole neighbourhoods in a year or two.

Seven lakes is a top notch school too.

Taylor was the good one along with Cinco when I graduated. It's still pretty solid from what I understand. You just stay away from Morton and Mayde creek.

I'm in Tomball now but we're looking in Cy fair. Opposite problem there with high schools. Only three we'd send our kids to. May look at Klein as long as it zones to Klein or Klein oak. I think Collins is good too.

For football the big schools in Texas will have two or three freshman teams, a sophomore team and a jv. 10th and 11th graders aren't automatically on varsity like in Louisiana. Tryouts in all other sports. I know of a few of the affluent high schools here in dfw will have 125-150 kids tryout for freshman baseball. The best part of it is all coaches are in the classroom. You get some great coaching in Texas because we can make a comfortable living here doing it
