This NFLPA victory lap is fun to watch

quote:

“We never make the mistake of trusting the league,” Smith said. “I don’t have the luxury of trusting the league. I think looking back on the statements of Mr. Kraft and the position of the Patriots, do I think they wish they had a do over? I think they probably wish they had a do over.” Asked about the players’ trust in the league and Goodell, Smith answered, “It’s gone.” The legacy of Deflategate may be that it tarnishes Goodell’s reputation far more than it tarnishes Brady’s.

There should have been zero trust in Goodell after bountygate.

The judge refuses to join the moronic witch hunt. Goodell is a national laughing stock.

Yeah, the NFL couldn't ask for the publicity it got from Deflategate from the Super Bowl to the eve of the season. It kept the NFL in the spotlight for the whole offseason and a week before season starts Brady will play next Thursday. All the NFL had to do was control the footballs from pregame to start of game. Not that complicated

Would be amazing if Brady got suspended for the playoffs after all of this.

What is the exact wording for punishment? "Games" or "games including playoffs/SB" etc.? I wouldn't even know where to begin looking for that

I understand this sentiment and agree generally about the publicity aspect, but this is not good for the league for the public to be shown how unfair the NFL acted against a very high profile player. To have that process slapped down by a hand-picked Federal judge is pretty significant. This in turn potentially strengthens the NFLPA in the next round of CBA negotiations. The owners don't like to lose that sort of public opinion leverage.

Exactly. This is publicity that the NFL didn't want. Sure...they were in the news quite a bit all spring and summer long, but it was mostly negative coverage - with many news outlets going after Roger Goodell himself and calling him incompetent. Let's also not forget the fact that Goodell and the NFL spent millions of dollars in this whole fiasco that have all gone to waste now.

I'm glad you and wildcat93 stuck this out. This was pretty satisfying!

Goldrush25, I remember you saying back in late July you wanted a ban bet over if Brady would start Week 1? Should I bump that thread?

All super bowl championships are now mythical because the NFL is not equipped to make rightful decisions according to the judge who ruled against the nfl today.

This pic in Edelman's congrats reaction puts LSU's LaFell in pretty good company on that tee.
