but did Gordon say he didn't realize he couldn't drink once the season is over?

He sort of suggested that he thought that since the season was over that he could drink. That he thought that was the condition. But he did take the blame for not bothering to find out.

I think the point is nothing has worked so far, so why not cut him and see if he responds?
Like Chad eluded to above, I'd be interested to see what all the Browns have done to assist him? If they've done a lot and he's not absorbing any of it, you may be correct.

While Gordon is a dumbass, I still think it is so goddamned stupid that we don't get to watch him play because he drinks alcohol and smokes weed.

It obviously doesn't hamper his performance on the field, and yet the NFL keeps him off the field because (i guess) they want all of their players to be some shining beacon of a role model to little kids around the country.

If Gordon gets arrested and goes to jail, I get it. Keep him off the field. Maybe suspend him for a few games for a DUI.

But the NFL actively goes out of its way to try and catch people smoking weed and drinking alcohol? frick, that's ridiculous. I don't really care if he's shooting up heroin on the weekends, so long as he's not harming others. I just want to see him go ham for 200 yards receiving on any given sunday.

Arguably the most ignorant most I've read on here since 2012 when someone wanted to fight me over LeBron James

Agreed. As long as a player isn't harming anyone off the field (potential or actual) or taking PEDs to gain an advantage on the opponent, I couldn't care less about what a player does or ingests in his down time.

On the field, yes, but no one can help him but himself. If anyone has ever dealt with addiction as a person or with a friend/family knows this. People can only do so much before it falls on the person to fix themselves

And a great way for this to happen is a change of scenery and better supervisors.

I think the issue is not that he's chemically addicted, but alcohol and marijuana are ways to release tension, stress, and anxiety. Obviously that avenue has caused him a lot of problems, but I still don't believe he's an addict.

He needs to find a different way to get rid of his stress, boredom etc.

The NFL is the most hypocritical organization I think I have ever encountered.

I want so badly to be able to support the Saints without otherwise supporting the NFL in any way.

I have known a number of 23-year olds over the years, and I think this statement would apply to most of them at least part of the time. I include myself in that category.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure some 23 year olds make very costly bad decisions.

But generally speaking, his bad decisions are costing him more than the average 23 year old making bad decisions. He has more at stake, more to lose, than the average 23 year old drinking it up.

Makes me really proud of Mathieu for getting the help and turning his life around before getting to this. Mathieu has been wonderful since turning pro and never once was bitter to LSU.

I truly hope Gordon can now do the actions to go along with these words.. because without it.. it's still just words.. Almost like the stuff Manziel constantly spouts out that he's going to get more dedicated or serious.. time after time....

Guessing he did with his agent. He's a smart dude, intellectually at least

This is even more alarming.

That letter was well written, thoughtful, direct and was indicative of a guy who is very intelligent.

Someone that intelligent must have some very strong demons if he continuously makes very bad decisions that destroy his life.

If his letter is to be believed:

* He is extremely intelligent
* He is not an addict and has been able to control his drug and alchohol consumption for extended periods with no problem
* He was able to escape from what sounded like was a very tough upbringing...which makes him even more exceptional
* He cares about his team and his career
* He has and has for a while taken responsibility for his actions internally

Yet, he can't make good decisions. I hate to say this...but that's worse than having an addiction. It's a mental instability. I mean, he gets it. Yet, he still can't get out of his own way.

I don't think your tests are near as strict as the NFL's. Their limit is very low
