Interesting stuff
Interesting stuff
quote:
Truth is, I have not smoked marijuana since before I was drafted by the Browns in 2012?—?and there are years’ worth of drug tests to prove it.
quote:
On Jan. 2 of this year, just days after our season ended earlier than we all had hoped?—?and yes, my actions during the prior offseason definitely contributed to our failure to make the playoffs; it killed me seeing our guys fight so hard when I wasn’t out there with them?—?I boarded a private flight to Las Vegas with several teammates. During the flight, I had two beers and two drinks. It was the first time I had consumed so much as a drop of alcohol since July 4, 2014, the day of the DWI.
quote:
What I do know is the following: I am not a drug addict; I am not an alcoholic; I am not someone who deserves to be dissected and analyzed like some tragic example of everything that can possibly go wrong for a professional athlete. And … I am not going to die on account of the troubled state you wrongly believe my life to be in. I am a human being, with feelings and emotions and scars and flaws, just like anyone else. I make mistakes?—?I have made a lot of mistakes?—?but I am a good person, and I will persevere.

I wonder who wrote it? Interesting perspective though for sure..

I believe it
If you read the whole thing he isn't blaming anyone but himself. At least he's owning up to it, which is a start.
I wasn't aware of his upbringing. Good to know some perspective.
It does prove that he doesn't seem to care too much though. If I'm an NFL player I am certainly checking to make sure I can drink once the season is over. Never assume anything.

Guessing he did with his agent. He's a smart dude, intellectually at least. Not so much with street smart. If you ever hear him talk he doesn't sound like a dude who grew up with so much hardship

actions speak louder than words! Stop failing drug test if you want to prove someone wrong. Stop being selfish and not caring about your teamates or team. If you dont want to be viewed that way, stop acting that way. Until then.. a pos will be a pos

I understand his struggle...
But once he got to Baylor, he had thousands of people trying help him. Same goes for the NFL.
His story is sad, alarming and too many people go through it..many which aren't millionaires. They die, end up in Prison, or live poor lives for the rest of their existences. He's been given so much and kinda backhands his opportunities every time he is given another chance.
This letter was pretty immature and I don't think he gets it

I believe his story but there is no way in hell he actually wrote that.
Posted on 1/29/15 at 12:44 pm to jimithing11
I certainly think these are his thoughts about himself, but I think there was someone helping him to craft his letter. It's pretty damn well written, I hope he gets his life together

There are thousands of kids that are in the situation he was in that would die to make it out of that struggle..and wouldn't chance it as much as he has. I'm not talking about his childhood. I'm talking about his bouts with suspension since he became a professional.

Not saying he's wrong, but man, it's really tough to believe you don't have a problem with drugs/alcohol when you're on the cusp of something so great and lucrative, and you've found a way to mess it up...how many times now?
Maybe it's not addiction in the medical terminology way, but he has some sort of problem, even if it's just decision making/impulsive type stuff, obviously.

Because he's black. That is what the guy you were quoting was getting at.

I guess, but it is somewhat unreasonable to think that a few drinks during your down time would have such a negative effect. I thought the same thing when this happened to that kicker last year.
They did know or should have known the rules though.
