Yes and those ridiculous prerequisites are the problem

I don't think it's ridiculous to have criteria in place for employment, though. The NFL is an enterprise--such measures protect them from flooding their league with unproven talent and diluting their product.

The difference here is the nature of the profession makes college football a gamble on a player's health, and therefore his ability to cash in on his talents at the next level should he be injured. But that's not the NFL's problem.

What do I care? I care more about the economic earning potential of these kids as opposed to making sure all schools get a "fair crack at a recruit.

Athletes are being given a free college education. How's that for economic earning potential? That's a huge advantage over the average student. Not to mention they are being given access to the best training, nutrition, and rehabilitation services possible.

In every other sport you can/could play right out of High School but the NFL wants to be special and has a 3 years out of HS rule.

Not saying they aren't with in their rights to have the nonsensical rule but it the problem when it comes to the whole college players being exploited argument

It's the problem of the argument, but still not the NFL's problem.

They have every right to protect their game/brand from dilution. Just because other sports have a different process does not mean the NFL must follow suit. To call it a "nonsensical" rule is asinine.

Letting players enter the draft doesn't dilute anything its simply a bigger draft pool, you are still drafting the same number of players.

It is nonsensical because the only purpose it serves is the NFL gets to pretend that it is special

You have no idea how that business works if you really think that's a legitimate reason at play. Come on, now.

So then tell me why do football players need to be 3 years out of High School to play professional in the NFL?

We might as well start giving high school stars a cut of the money taken at the gate, they're the ones putting butts in the seats....where does it stop?!?

He's totally correct. Per USA in 2010/2011 only 22 D1 ATHLETIC DEPARTMENTS did not need a school or govt subsidy to balence their books. The vast majority of AD's
LOSE MONEY. If you pay FB player you have to pay everyone including womens field hockey or any other absurd sport that was created through Title IX.

It's FEDERAL LAW and there's no way around it.

You know damn well that if the students are allowed to go out and make money themselves, there will be no end to the amount of money that boosters figure out how to pay them.

I don't think we need to go back to those days
that is happening now.

Dude gets free tuition plus room and board. 4yrs of that is worth over $50K. Over 120K at a private school like USC.

Anyone that thinks these kids should get additional money must be mildly retarded
Manziel brought something like $37million extra to A&M last season, and it's mildly retarded to think he deserves more than tuition and housing?

What does the average salary look like for a star player?

Want to see it skyrocket? Let free market likeness selling happen.

Manziel should be able to turn pro and cash out.

Yes, actually.

Let players take any endorsements they want with any company they want. Look at Oregon and soon to be Maryland, it's already happening, it's just against the rules, rules that were set in place based on what was relevant probably 50 years ago.
