Nicklaus is the GOAT...no doubt. Tiger can still get to his level though.. Not nearly as likely but still possible

He can still get to his level? I don't understand this. Tiger will never be back to his old dominant self, so he isn't going to improve any.

We've seen his level. He's shown and proven his level over years and years. He is what he is. He's either better than Jack or not. I think he is.

looks like robert shaw's assassin character in 'from russia with love' ...

tiger couldn't hit that persimmon driver 250 ... jack could hit it 350 ...

40 yo ... tiger wishes he could get it in position like that at the top ...

the type golfer jack lost to ...

jack finished 2nd as an amateur in the US Open ... he didn't play as many jr amateur events as tiger, so that comparison flies out the door ...

I'm gonna look into this. And the first bit of evidence that I find to support my argument....its your arse!

You don't think players being about to customize their equipment makes it harder on Tiger? Or any random golfer in any week for that matter. And the golfers now are much better aren't they? Anyone can play now. Wasn't it less inclusive back in the day?

Jack Nicklaus and his sons took a fishing trip to Russia and came back with… a bloody nose. Don't have to worry about sharp metal objects flying at you too frequently in golf (well, not frequently). Fishing is another story.

Nicklaus' record shows more variety and scope in how it was achieved. His 73 wins were done in 35 events, played over 49 courses. His total reflects a more wider-ranging schedule than Woods, a schedule that had very few limited-field/no-cut events to feast upon; Jack won just six of such tournaments.

Woods took strong advantage of limited-field events, with 22 victories, most of them of the World Golf Championship type. Woods' 73 wins were done in 26 events done over 43 courses.

Another telling Woods stat is that he built his record by dominating a small group of events; nearly half his victories, 35, have taken place in just six tournaments: Arnold Palmer Invitational, WGC Bridgestone/NEC Invitational, Buick Invitational, BMW/Western, Memorial and WGC American Express Ch. Nicklaus' best domination took place in the Masters, PGA Championship and Tournament of Champions.

Jack's competition: Gary PLayer(9), Arnold Palmer(7), Tom Watson(8), Lee Trevino(6), Seve Ballesteros(5), Ray Floyd(4)

Tiger's: Phil(5), Ernie(4), Rory(4)

Top to bottom, golf is better now, but top 20, not so much.

Edit: Major wins in parentheses.

Being black and being good at golf =/= revolutionizing the sport. Not like he invented a new swing technique or anything. I think a more appropriate word IMO would be that he revitalized golf. But he brought it back big time. Not that golf was ever gone, but you know what I mean. It is close and I grew up during the Tiger era, but I think Nicklaus for sure.

Jack is GOAT, but those trying to deny Tiger changed golf have their heads so far in the sand it is hilarious. Why don't you ask any player how they like the prize money these days

Jack is still the GOAT, but this is just false.

Today's equipment is much more forgiving and therefore limits the advantages of great ball strikers.

He could play a true blade/MB or CB combo
913, with a BB7 XStiff, and a Scotty.

Prolly win 22 Majors. Easily.

Ok so Arnold did too. Here is the Tiger effect. Hate the guy all you want but to act like he didn't change golf in terms of media coverage, prize money, and the amount of golf played by young athletes makes one look foolish

quote:

In 1985 Curtis Strange was the top money leader on tour, he won 3 times and he earned a total of $542,321. In 1985 he was the only player on tour to earn in excess of $500,000. The Inflation calculator to the left would indicate that normal rates on inflation would have put Curtis Strange’s $500k at $1.013 million in todays terms. That is a 100% increase but the Tiger Effect has created GREATER THAN 1,000% inflation of winnings on Tour. Take a look at this chart and you will see that drastic spike in winnings after 1995. This chart shows the number of players who earned greater than $500,000 and the number of players who earned over $1,000,000 in the given years. The pre-Tiger era between 1985 and 1995 was loaded with some of the greatest players of all time including Payne Stewart, Tom Watson, Ray Floyd, Mark O’Meara, Tom Kite, Paul Azinger and Greg Norman. I think it would be safe to say that in this Post Arnold and Nicklaus but pre-Tiger era Norman had the most profound effect on the game globally.
