This is my list of teams that, on my opinion, would probably be better off being an FCS school.

Charlotte
Marshall
Middle Tennessee
Old Dominion
Rice
Ball St
Buffalo
UNLV
Idaho

There's been some debate for ULM.

UAB bc historically they've accomplished shite and Samford(an FCS school) would probably kick their arse on the field

Do schools have a say so in the level they are? As in does the NCAA place each school in every level? I know they don't like having a school with different level programs (basketball D1 while the football team is D2).

New Mexico State hasn't made a bowl since 1960, but they almost beat Arizona State this weekend

Although not a good team, they've never been as dreadful as some of the sun belt bottom feeders. Idaho and New Mexico State have been the 2 worst fcs teams in my lifetime. Utah state was just as bad as them for a while until Gary Andersen turned them around (although the new coach hasn't been able to maintain nearly the same level of success).

I dont like how there has been amass exodus from 1AA the past 10 years, but most of the programs that have come up have done descently well(Ga Southern, App State, Old Dominion). We will have to see how a Charlotte and Coastal Carolina does in the next few years.

The only teams that I would say that definitely need to go down are New Mexico State and UMASS. I would almost lump Georgia State in there as well but they have put a lot of money into the program lately, and could have somewhat of a program in a couple of years.

Texas State

They moved up and it just isn't working. Had lots of success in fcs. Now a consistent sun belt doormat

Any program that can't turn a profit without student fees.
