How often has Bama made the tourney?
They made 6 sweet sixteens under Wimp Sanderson. Traditionally Alabama has been a pretty good basketball school

South Carolina basketball is up there as well though they look like they're on the right track. Haven't made the tourney since 04, haven't made a sweet 16 since the early 80's. Indiana football has always been rough. Crazy to think Kansas made a BCS bowl in 07.

I know where Klay Thompson went to school at. But it does not change the fact nobody ever mentions them or did.

The only reason Oregon State got mentioned in the past few years, until this year was because the former HC was Michelle Obama's brother.

Probably the best example for football here. Maybe Vandy or Kentucky for people outside the SEC?

Fun fact.

There are only two schools who play football in FBS who have never made the NCAA tournament in their entire history in men's basketball:

Northwestern
USMA

Nebrasketball is the greatest nickname ever and for that alone they deserve to be talked about.

Nebraska basketball?

Danny Nee had Bugeater bball in a good place. 7 ncaa appearances, 5 nit, 1 nit championship, etc

Big8 was a very good, deep conference.

Unless Im misunderstanding the question, LSU Basketball fits this pretty easily. We have a perennial top 10 football team (sort of) and possibly the most recognized baseball team in the nation, yet we have made the NCAA tournament once since 2009 in basketball.

LSU basketball isn't nearly bad enough to be considered for this

How so? We are constantly at best a middle of the pack team in a very weak basketball conference that has 4 final four appearances in school history. When compared to how elite both of our other programs are, then we should easily be considered.

I remember Aleks Maric being a pretty good player for Nebraska.

That's still nowhere close to Northwestern (ZERO NCAA APPEARANCES EVER), Nebraska (7 NCAA tournament appearances, never won a game), or Rutgers (6 tournament appearances, none since 1991)

Because there are other programs that are consistently bottom of the pack. Indiana basketball and Nebraska football are plenty elite historically and their respective football and basketball programs are terrible, much worse than LSU is at basketball

If you're going to argue LSU for basketball, you can argue a whole bunch of "football schools" like Alabama, USC, Miami, FSU, etc. LSU's basketball program is a lot better historically than you are giving it credit for

How he never won a game in the NCAAT with Rich King I do not know. They were a 3 seed that year also.

The question wasn't necessarily asking for the least accomplished teams, but I guess the least consistently memorable ones if that makes sense. Even though less accomplished teams usually correlate to less memorable programs.

For example, Georgetown basketball is in a lull right now, and I dont hear much from them, but I wouldn't place them in this category because they were consistently successful in the not to distant past and are full of prestige and notable alumni.

Haven't read past the first few replies, but I'd nominate Iowa State football.

For both Football and Basketball I'd say:

Illinois
Wake Forest
Rutgers

I forget the Big Ten has Illinois in it most of the time.

Good one for football.

Boston College for basketball?

There are some programs that are so bad that they get attention due to their futility. Kansas football is a great example.

As far as the OP is concerned, I'm trying to think of programs that are not all-time, the worst ever, but are never good or bad enough to get any publicity whatsoever.
