I disagree, and coming from the guy that thinks the Dodgers are the best team in baseball. That's rich.

At least make an argument or refute mine, that's fine with me. All these teams are close in true talent level, I'm fine with a differing opinion. But all you do is laugh and dismiss, while offering no substance of your own.

I enjoy talking baseball, doesn't mean I want to all the time, I wasn't even going to post at all as I'm not in that mood tonight but seeing Dodgers as best team I had to laugh.

I'll take the Cards, Royals, Pirates, and possibly Cubs/Jays over the Dodgers.

Mainly because in my postseason experience with the Cards, most games tend to come down to bullpens, and the Dodgers currently have a bottom 5 bullpen in all of the Majors, and by far the worst of any playoff team. Combine that with 2 quality starters, and I would be surprised if they make it out of the first round again.

I would never, and I mean never, trust a team with a terrible bullpen in October.

Fair enough and I agree that the Dodgers bullpen could be a concern in the postseason. I would take their lineup and rotation over the Cardinals though, that's why I think they are better. It's all close though, both (and all the other teams you listed) are very good.

I do have to take issue with the "2 quality starters" line. That may be one of the biggest undersells I have ever seen. They have two of the best starters alive and the rest of their rotation is solid as well.

Ballsy, seeing is how the Cards rotation is unlike any other since the 1970's and all 3 teams that have had a lower ERA this late into the season in baseball history, all won the World Series.

You may never see another rotation like this Cardinals one this season in many many years. And this is without Wainwright.

I like Greinke and Kershaw as much as the next guy, but that doesn't put them above the Cardinals depth as a whole. No one can match the Cardinals depth, starters or bullpen for that matter.

Again I think this mostly comes down to a sky high strand rate that is not sustainable.

Their FIP barely beats the Dodgers FIP and that includes bullpens and it is mostly from stats before the Dodgers acquired Latos and Wood

It's mid August, I don't think the 'not sustainable' thing holds much water at this point to be honest.

The 2013 Cardinals hit better with RISP than basically any team since WWII, yet with basically the same roster they were more or less league average in 2012, 2014 and 2015. In essence, it was pretty fluky/lucky. I feel Cardinals pitching in 2015 is very similar. I mean it is a great pitching staff, but nowhere near as good as their current ERA. Because being as good as their current ERA for any team is basically impossible without mounds of luck.

I just don't know, too many games and too late in the season to call it a fluke IMO but to each their own.

And it's not just starters either, they have the best bullpen by a good chunk too.

We may just have to agree to disagree. The gap between the Cardinals strand rate and the Mets in second is is the same as the Mets and the Tigers in 28th place. I just don't see how you can expect that to persist.

The cards are 10 games better than the Dodgers in a division with 2 other teams better than the Dodgers. They have 4 guys who have saved 30 in a year in the bp and may add wainwright to them for the playoffs vs what the Dodgers have. They will be playing 5 inning games with the best rotation in baseball in the playoffs.

I think the Cardinals are the best team in baseball and imo it isn't particularly close. But baseball is a weird game sometimes, the best team doesn't usually win the WS anymore

The Dodgers have a 4 game better baseruns record than the Cardinals. And before you laugh, baseruns records have a much better correlation with future performance than actual win-loss records.

The Blue Jays are second in base runs. Does that include Tulo and Price? If it does not, then you may consider the Jays to be the best.

It would include the 20 or so games they have played with them. I think the Jays are probably the best team in the AL and you could make a case for the whole league especially if Stroman comes back healthy.
