There is a simple fix to preventing this from happening again. They should just show the percentage of entries every player is picked in to everybody when u are choosing ur team

can somebody explain how this is a scandal?

this is nothing like insider trading. this would be like if a guy working in finance at a big firm had access to a great algorithm of the firm and used that to invest on his own, finding great success.

I think people are just hoping for the downfall of both sites so they're grasping at straws.

Exactly, you are up against people who do this basically as a full time job.

He spends between eight and 15 hours working from his two-bedroom apartment in downtown Boston; the range reflects his uncertainly over whether to count the time watching games as work. During baseball season he puts about 200 entries into tournaments each night, and he can play more than 1,000 times in the weekly contests during NFL season.

Anyone know whether it's possible to actually gamble on lines on these sites? I get the impression you can't, which is shite.

I'm not some big shot gambler, just want to be able to place a couple of dollars a week on a four or five team parlay.

I mean it's an advantage knowing what players are being played the most heavily in these to differentiate your line up. It doesn't guarantee you anything but it's certainly an edge.

Scandal? Nah. Shady? Yes.

he played in the other site using data that showed which players were picked up the most?

I think it would basically be the opposite of that. He probably played with top players who were picked up the least, because to win real money, you have to hit on "sleepers" - people who are unpopular picks.

If you use the same players as everyone else then you have less chances to make up points.

If there are 6 roster spots and you share a QB with 75% of the other players you only have 5 spots to outscore those 75%. If you pick a different QB you have 6.

Also you can take a chance on a cheaper QB and spend more on other positions. It's definitely an advantage.

how?

these companies are in direct competition with each other and use publicly-available data (crunched via proprietary means)
