They need a title or it means nothing other than a great regular season.

The record is what it is, no one is taking that from them.
IF they don't win the Finals or even make the Finals it'd be one of the bigger upsets in league history.

That said, don't overreact to one game. OKC had one mission in the first couple games at Oracle...win one. GSW now have the same mission. If they win game 4, they're in the drivers seat. Best 2/3 with 2 at home

They absolutely chased the record though.
They did. I'm not arguing that, but I just don't see how that interferes with playoffs success.

how did they prioritize the regular season over the postseason?
They could have "stopped" when they clinched HCA after win #70... they aren't automatons (we hope). That mental pressure might be getting to them

I would hope we could agree that at the very least it's possible that they're suffering through fatigue based on their regular season run. I don't see how anyone could say it's 100% a factor. In that same vein I don't see how someone can say that there's zero chance that it's a factor at all. That's the nature of the world, it's probabilistic.

Even if there's a miniscule chance that it's a factor, then they did themselves no favors by chasing the record. What is that record worth if there's even a small chance that it affects your team negatively in the playoffs?

But it isn't an either/or scenario. I mean what sort of effect does resting your starters for the last 3 games have on your playoff success? What about the loss of momentum or the sense that you "gave up" on an attainable and significant regular season milestone?

I guess my point is that in the context of the entire season and specifically to their potential exit in the WCF, it is a moot point.

without looking, I'm going to say their starters played more minutes in the regular season last year than they did this year. I'm sure someone can look that up.
Mentally, yeah I get it... It could be a factor.

rhythm is also very important.

Well my premise is based on not chasing the record in the first place. If breaking the record is never the goal, then they're likely resting for more than 3 games. Once the record was the goal, they committed themselves to play as long as they had to to get it done.

I'm of the opinion their regression on defense, Steph and Bogut getting banged up, coupled with OKC/CLE emerging are far more important factors if they don't get it done. But to say that chasing the record absolutely has had zero negative impact on them? No I can't go there. What basis do I have to make an absolute statement like that? Ultimately we can't prove it one way or the other.

I just means they will be the greatest Regular season team of all time instead of the greatest team of all time.

If they fail to even make the Finals, it does pretty much ruin the GOAT claims.

Doesn't diminish how impressive 73 wins is. But best regular season record isn't even as close to as memorable as GOAT.

If they don't win they will just be remembered like the 2001 Mariners and 2007 Patriots....a great team with a historic regular season

Just by a little bit.

You remember that great Minnestota Viking team of 1998. No, no you don't. That's because they lost in the NFC championship game.

LSU was on the cusp of being one of the GOATs in 2011.

Everyone only remembers the 21-0 loss to Bama.

Obviously will affect their standing.

Didn't make it to finals with best record ever, really?

I actually think that they'll be more memorable if they don't win it all
